Someone might have beaten me to posting this, but just in case...here's a good reason to bake pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving. Aparently, the smell of pumpkin is arousing (http://abcnews.go.com/Health/MindMoodResourceCenter/sexually-arousing-smells-pumpkin/story?id=12226715) to the male half of the species. No wonder it's the traditional pie!

ETA: Just found a link with more data. Buttered popcorn (http://www.smellandtaste.org/index.cfm?action=research.sexual)is the lowest on the list. So much for taking your date to the movies!

I'm just a little skeeved out right now. Mainly because my 6-year-old nephew has been fixated on pumpkin pie for the past 1.5-2 years, to the point of having "birthday pumpkin pie" instead of "birthday cake".

Honestly, I doubt that means anything more than he really likes the taste of pumpkin pie. :)

Remember, correlation does not equal cause and effect, and the study was done on *adult* males. Smells tend to be very associative...and what an adult associates with a smell could well be different than what a kid associates.

ETA: Anyway, I wasn't trying to skeeve anyone out. I just found it very amusing. Especially as pumpkin reminds me of being half a world away from a boyfriend one year at Thanksgiving. I made a bunch of mini pumpkin pies to send to him. I must have gotten him thinking about me even more than I realized at the time!
