Instead of the traditional ham dinner, I'm gonna do Mexican food! Tex-Mex actually. I'm not going to make tamales, but we have a wonderful tamale "store" down the street. I can make enchiladas, and tacos, and guacamole, and queso dip. Maybe carne guisada.

And Tres Leches cake!

I'm excited!

Any suggestions?

Oh - the best part. I'm going to have a pinata, with stocking stuffers! Candy, small amount gift cards, gift cards for fast food places, $1 scratch off lottery tickets. I'm saving so much on the meal, I can splurge a little. It will be fun! There will be at least four 20-somethings in attendance.

(Deja vu happening here... did I post about this already? I searched both here and at the Dope, I can't find anything.)

Churros and chocolate are a must.

But...HAM is the traditional American dish for Christmas? Wow.

They have to, they ate all their turkeys at thanksgiving.

Oh yes, and killed the turkeyman. I forgot. Poor Bernard. :sciencefail:

Fuck ham. My family only has it once a year (Dad's birthday, as he's the only one who likes it). We have a roast. But damn, a Mexican-food Christmas dinner... That sounds wonderful!

I think you should celebrate the melting pot that is American culture by combining Christmas traditions from various ethnic backgrounds.

I agree, fuck ham. I don't eat pig except for bacon and occasionally sausage, but never ever ham. Typically around here people have turkey for Christmas, but I'm considering making a nice meatloaf with mashed potatoes and mac n' cheese.

The Tex-Mex Xmas feast sounds awesome, D.

I must say, however, I have grave reservations about anyone who doesn't like ham. Avoiding it because it is proscribed for religious reasons is one thing, but anyone who's had it and doesn't like it, I don't understand.

I love ham! But we had ham and turkey at Thanksgiving, and I'm tired of it. We always have ham for Christmas. I have picky in-laws, and no matter what side dishes I fix, they barely eat anything.

So I'm preparing dishes that they can't possibly hate. :science:
