You're the next contestant on the jurist is right! (http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/05/26/supreme.court/index.html)

It's interesting that she was first nominated to the Federal bench by George H.W. Bush, and to the Court of Appeals by Clinton. She should make for an interesting round of approvals.

A woman, a minority, an inspirational life story, and brilliant qualifications. Repubs will have to work hard to find any chinks in her armor. I just hope they learn to pronounce her name correctly.

She was odds on favorite on the short list (http://www.thedailybeast.com/big-fat-story/2009-05-01/the-next-female-justice/) The Daily Beast put together a couple weeks ago. After reading her profile I agree with Islander. She's tough as nails and has an impeccable background. I was hoping for Brinkmann, but Sotomayor will be an excellent Justice.

I am sure the Republicans will find something on the Judge that they will use to make the nomination as difficult as possible. They might start with this comment she made at Dukes University: UTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OfC99LrrM2Q).

Doubtless. I did find this quote amusing:

"The Republicans are going to strike a tone that's fair, that allows the vetting process to happen like it should, and that's in stark contrast to how the Democrats dealt with Judge Roberts when you look back a couple years ago," the official said, referring to the 2005 confirmation of Chief Justice John Roberts.

Huh?! Roberts sailed through. Is it opposite day?

Sounds right to me. They're saying they'll actually use the vetting process to grill her, as opposed to how the Democrats rolled over on Roberts. Hopefully this will get them to stop doing that.

Well as long as she has paid her taxes, should that really be so hard ?

Former presidential candidate Mike Huckabee decried the “appointment” of “Maria Sotomayor.”

“The appointment of Maria Sotomayor for the Supreme Court is the clearest indication yet that President Obama's campaign promises to be a centrist and think in a bi-partisan way were mere rhetoric. Sotomayor comes from the far left and will likely leave us with something akin to the ‘Extreme Court’ that could mark a major shift. The notion that appellate court decisions are to be interpreted by the ‘feelings’ of the judge is a direct affront of the basic premise of our judicial system that is supposed to apply the law without personal emotion. If she is confirmed, then we need to take the blindfold off Lady Justice,” the former Arkansas governor said in a statement.

Maria Hussein Sotomayor. Or maybe Maria Guevara Castro Sotomayor.

Well, I mean she was appointed to the bench by that known radical and Maxist, George H.W. Bush. The guy's almost a terrorist.
