And his plan is a doozy (https://www.politico.com/story/2019/08/18/bernie-sanders-criminal-justice-overhaul-proposal-1466995). BFF and I went through the laundry list of his sweeping proposal (https://berniesanders.com/justice-and-safety-for-all/) and I don't think he missed a damned thing I'd want to see on that list. I like that there are some pretty pointed digs in there at Kamala the Cop, nicely done. It also seems to me that these are eminently attainable policies that would significantly improve the quality of life in our communities, stop making justice something only the rich can afford and improve the relationship between law enforcement and citizens. Nicely done, Bernie, and :flip: to all the people who try to say he doesn't have any detailed policy plans!

It seems pretty good. I like that Bernie isn't afraid to step back and say, "hold up, what are prisons even for? Not making a profit, that's for sure. What do we need to change so that they fill their duty rather than some pockets?".
On the other hand, I can't get over Bernie's hatred for nuclear energy. We aren't gonna beat global warming without it, and that's an existential threat. Warren is for nuclear, and also for sweeping criminal reform. Sorry Bernie...

Big giant nuclear plants are not a good way to go, they're massively expensive, finicky AF, magnets for crazy bombers and the problem endlessly remains of what the fuck do we DO with all those spent fuel rods that are going to be dangerous for a really long time? At the moment we'd be better served by overhauling every foot of the power grid to improve efficiency and cut down loss over transmission distances, going rooftop and farmed solar like maniacs and make the grid bi-directional. Wind farms offshore and wave generators off the coast to produce power and desalinate water because that's gonna be a big concern right quick. We need to get off of extractive energy and fast or we gonna die.
And if you want nuclear, just gotta have it, why not investigate using small contained reactors like they put on college campuses and in submarines and big ships? Put one of those as a sealed unit in an underground bunker and let them serve however many hundred or thousand houses they can handle for their effective lifespan then replace the entire unit. Seems like it would work--works on the ships pretty well. Decentralized nuclear, less dangerous, less attractive to tamper with. I'm sure there's some reasons why it wouldn't work, but if those reasons are just a matter of logistics, well...
