I'm thinking about it but I'm not Catholic so it's optional.

Really it's optional if you're Catholic, too. We're encouraged to make an observance, but it's not an obligation like fasting/abstinence.
I'm stretched so thin that the thought of giving up any shred of the things that make me happy (coffee, chocolate, knitting, snark) is a non-starter.
I find it more in keeping with the intent of Lent to add something that is good for the soul rather than to giving up a thing/activity. (though giving up negative spiritual habits/practices is good, too) Commit to making time for quiet reflection, added prayer, or regular exercise. Better yet, add something that benefits me and someone else: make a conscious effort to say something nice to someone each day. Commit random small acts of kindness.

For us EpiscAnglians, the kids give up stuff like candy, but that is silly for adults. Lent is a time to consider bringing one's heart and mind to larger questions with hope. That is really hard. Smaller acts are more attainable, like being kinder, or more generous to others, or make peace with someone, or stop screaming at Berners who feel likenotvotingis . . wait, ok, no . . You may note that I am having trouble with this.

I suppose you're right. I guess I could stand to ease up on the speedballs a little.

But is this a generous act? What will happen to your supply chain? Are you threatening the livelihood of your pusher?
ah, that is what you mean, rite?

I'm using Lent as an excuse to change up my diet a little bit, as I do most years.
One of the more interesting ideas I heard this year was to pick out one not-needed object from your house and donate/recycle/give it to the needy every day of lent. Sort of a slow-motion marie kondo.

I like this idea. :)

I'm thinking about picking out 40 books from the overflowing shelves of my library and sending them to either my church's jail ministry or the homeless shelter.

I'm not exactly doing this for Lent, but I'm trying (successfully so far) to quit consuming aspartame. It's not easy.

Say goodbye to chewing gum and more than 50% of the yogurt in your average grocery store.

I'm OK with that.

I rarely have yogurt and when I do it's the plain kind so no big loss for me there. Chewing gum helped me quit smoking but I just gave up the Trident® and I miss it. But not nearly as much as I miss the diet cola. I didn't give up caffeine, tho', just artificial sweeteners. I'm drinking a lot of tea.

It's an irresistible joke. :)
I would not have thought I'd give up church for lent, but in these days of the Rona, it seems I have. I missing communal singing.

Lent is almost done: it's holy week, and Passover!
How are you cleaning the house?

I'm not! But I'm part of the live-cast Thursday mass tomorrow evening.
It feels so wrong to go out and do anything, but there will be <10 people there and we'll all stay distant.

Well it's not like you could take the organ home.

I used to have one at home. It took up too much room. Now I just have the piano.
And a keyboard.
And four flutes.
And three guitars.
And a bass.
And a ukulele.
And a saxophone.
The trumpet's only borrowed.

3 other odd wind instruments.
A bunch of harmonicas floating around

Q: How many instruments does a musician need?
A: Just one more baby, I swear!
My husband is one of you people. I don't even know how many woodwinds are in this house.

I'm the least musical person in the house, I basically play the stereo.

A musician needs an audience, and I need someone to eat my cooking, so I think it balances out. It's not like he's spending the car payment on a new guitar.
