View Full Version : Biden vs. Trump

I know Biden is probably not anyone's first choice but he pretty much has the nomination and has a pretty good chance to beat Trump.
Florida poll, UNF Biden 46, Trump 40 Biden +6
UNF is University of North Florida. No clue how objective they are.
But Florida polls have been in short supply and it is hopeful that Trump is trailing. If Florida turns from Trump, Biden only needs to pick up one other good size state to take the electoral college (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2016_United_States_presidential_election).
Michigan and/or Ohio are pretty likely flips. (2016)
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/e/ec/ElectoralCollege2016.svg/348px-ElectoralCollege2016.svg.png
Biden needs to flip 39 Electoral Votes. Michigan & Ohio are not enough, but Florida goes a long way at 29. I think Penn is in play. There is an outside chance of Arizona & Wisconsin being in play. Also to add to the confusion is that 1 stray Maine vote.
Any other states that were Red last time that might go for Biden?
Arizona seems to like Biden and collectively dislikes Trump's treatment of John McCain. The most recent Poll shows Biden slightly ahead in fact.
Wisconsin & Iowa did vote for Obama. (2012)

I see Michigan going Presidential blue this time. That's not to say there still aren't a lot of idiots around these parts, but I'm beginning to see some of them pretty unhappy about their leader right now. And Michigan elected a woman Dem as Governor last year, too. There's still a lot of bitching about her (and her fashion choices because....idiots) but right now Cheetoh is trying to slap her around while she's fighting to save her state, and people see how he's actually dicking them this time, and not just those goldamn libruls.
So, these days I find little that gives me hope, but this does. It's barely a thread right now but I suspect Trump will continue to pull the thread that finally unravels, pissing off everyone, including the drooling morons that voted for him.

It's too early. Sanders is hanging on hoping Biden has a bad moment or two. CV-19 is screwing the economy and that'll hurt trump. Biden's VP remains an unknown.
If Sanders bows out gracefully, and if economic recovery is slow, plus the Anybody but trump people actually vote, Biden could well win. IMHO.
I hope trump is a casualty of his own stupidity when this is all over.

The latest forecast map on 270towin (https://www.270towin.com/maps/consensus-2020-electoral-map-forecast) shows PA, FL, NC, MI, WI, and AZ as up for grabs. PA was more sort of pink in 2016, thanks in large part to my own damn county and a US congressmonster (who has sort of slunk back into his slimehole after running for senator and losing) who was way up Trump's ass who did a lot of help him get elected.
I think PA could flip if Biden, who was born in Scranton, is able to hammer home the "coal country born and bred" for the Rust Belt appeal.
There have been a lot of TV ads running lately featuring Pennsylvanians who voted for Trump in 16 and are now regretting it. Hopefully those people and others like them will have the stones to vote against Trump this time.

In my opinion, Gretchen Witmer is AWESOME. I first saw her on "Meet the Press" as Chuckie was trying to stir up shit between her and Trump. She didn't fall for it and came out looking great. Poise under pressure personified.

Yep, poor choice of words, but I get what the intent was. Trump suffering defeat for his stupidity and greed would be a great thing. The fact that a big part of this will have been from far more deaths and disabilities than were needed is a nightmare.
I really think Michigan is almost surely going to vote Biden over Trump. So many indicators make it likely. But Biden has to flip at least 23 more electoral votes. So Florida or two others. I'm hopeful that the backlash over this crisis is strong enough for Biden to pickup all of the in play states and a surprise or two and that the Dems get the houses on his coat tails.

Agreed. I've always liked Gretchen Whitmer from back when she was a State Legislator. She's been a prominent figure in the Lansing area for a long time, and she's very approachable. Mostly, she's tough as hell and freaking awesome. I like her more than I like Jennifer Granholm, and that's saying something.

I suspect that if it wasn't for Chicago, Illinois would be a red state as well.

Now that Bernie Sanders has dropped out of the race, (https://www.cnn.com/2020/04/08/politics/bernie-sanders-drops-out/index.html) I just want to say to his fans:
PLLLEEEAAAAASSSSSSSE don't vote for Trump or some third-party nitwit out of spite. At this point, we need Trump the fuck out of Washington DC and a functioning adult in charge of the country. We need the country stabilized and the brakes put on the damage Trump has caused. We need to not be a laughingstock in the international community again. We need a president who can hold a news conference without flubbering into some rabid orange mutant Lawrence Welk who only cares about how wunnerful, wunnerful he thinks he is.
The country needs time to recover before it'll be ready for sweeping changes. Please. I'm shamelessly begging you, pretty please with sprinkles on top.

Biden actually has one of the best chances to beat Trump. I like Sanders & Warren better also. Hell, I even like Bloomberg better but he had no chance.
Joe comes across very blue collar, he is strangely very popular with African Americans. He plays really well in states Hillary lost that she shouldn't have.
He from Scranton and polls well in Pennsylvania.
Ohio & Michigan round out the rust belt where HRC lost and Biden should pick up 1 or both.
He is doing well in Arizona which surprised me. Apparently a lot of voters that typically vote Republican really hate Trump and hate his treatment and insulting of John McCain. OK, I'll take it.
A lot of seniors in Florida no longer like Trump even though they foolishly voted for him last time. This includes my In-Laws and a lot of their friends. Florida voted Obama/Biden twice but Hillary lost it. Biden may well take it back.
Blue States are not switching to Trump. Seriously.
He's not Trump is good enough for me.
And this really sums it up. He's not Trump!

That is why Biden will win. “May you live in interesting times” is a curse. People want to go back to boring. Having Side-Show Bob run the country is exhausting. And self-evidently ruinous.
This election is going to be a straight-up referendum on un-indicted co-conspirator Donald John Trump. It didn’t matter who the Democrats nominated, but boring was the best choice.

I suspect that if it wasn't for Chicago, Illinois would be a red state as well.
I would add a few more guesses:
1. Voters here are driven by religion--issues like same-sex marriage and abortion keep Indiana red. Indiana democrats are, by and large, more socially conservative if you don't count Bloomington (Indiana University) and West Lafayette (Purdue University).
2. Though we do have some good-sized urban areas, the urban vote is outweighed by the rural vote. Even the suburbs tend to vote republican.
3. Our urban areas tend to be whiter than usual--Indiana still has a population that is almost 85% white, and I think about 80% non-hispanic white.
4. Fewer than 40% of the population have any kind of college degree, and that number includes 2 year degrees.

Such a simple one too, he should do it. I wonder though how this issue plays in the swing states. Might not help in Florida and that is the biggest prize of the states in play.

Interesting, Biden has a 48% to 47% edge in the latest North Carolina Poll. This is a PPP poll, Public Policy Polling.
PPP is apparently a Democratic polling firm though, so please take with a grain of salt.
Still a good sign that NC is not only in play but Trump might currently be losing it.
Rasmussen Reports shows Trump Job Approval as Approve 46, Disapprove 53.
Rasmussen Reports is a Right Wing polling company and they have been showing Trump losing nationally and declining in approval.
It looks like Economist/YouGov leans left but is also UK based.
Civitas is very right leaning.
