It's all good Chac. I expected it. It's how it goes when you come into a place. I'd just rather have it out than wreck other's threads talking about who I am or if I'm a troll or not. It's not fair to other posters.

I'm pretty sure you're just trolling, but if you block a handicapped parking spot, you're a worthless piece of shit.

You're doing well, B.B. Most new posters get ignored for not being very interesting and fade away.

There's only about five posters here, the rest are socks.

I'm pretty sure you're wrong.

I don't tend to freak out over things like that. I wouldn't go up to someone and spazz on them for blocking a spot for a minute and a half. It seems I don't have to though with you all on the case.

Amazingly, I've never had any of that happen to me at all when I go to a new place. And, as the spouse of a husband who now needs a handicap sticker to get around, you block a parking spot he needs to go get something for "just a minute," I'd happily take down your license plate number all the while calling the cops on your ass. Have a nice day.

I'm being called a troll but I believe the correct slur is "attention whore".

Seems like you're damned if you do and damned if you don't around here.

I've seen it a million times to a million different posters.

If your husband needs it at the time, that's totally legit although don't you think the cops have more important things to worry about than a parking spot?

How many times have you actually had to call the police because someone was occupying a handicap space you/your husband needed?

joyfool 27th June 2014 08:15 AM

I've never had to do it. However, there's a guy on the Dope who is an activist who sees that nonsensical bullshit all the time. And is your argument really that, because the cops wouldn't give a shit, therefore it's okay to be a giant flaming fucktard? Are your cigs, or an extra 20 feet, really more important than grandma being close enough to her insulin? Dear God.

joyfool 27th June 2014 08:17 AM

Oh, and to your first bit....... I've seen it too, but very seldom has the person being called out been legit. Most the time, they are a troll at worst or a thin-skinned whiner at best. I've been online since the mid 90s, on tons of message boards, and I've never brought the board's ire down on my head right off the bat. I think that takes a special gift.

Bouncy Beth 27th June 2014 08:29 AM

No, my argument isn't that at all. Saying the cops have better things to do than police a handicap parking spot does not equate to it being fine to pull a Denis Leary. I just figure police time and resources are better used on actual crime fighting.

For the record, I don't park in handicap spaces. I probably won't even when I'll be able (or disable as it were) to do so.

This is the board's ire? All I see is cliche name calling and terrible reading comprehension.

I'm feeling underwhelmed.

joyfool 27th June 2014 08:40 AM

Really? You're the one that started the thread complaining about your treatment here. If your oh-so-above-it-all, then why the defensiveness? Several posters have given you good advice to just flow with things and fit in. Instead, you're going the 'I'm so much better than you plebes' schtick and it really doesn't jibe with your behavior. I'll patiently wait now for you to rebut that. Perhaps you should add a :: yawn :: at the end to add authenticity?

Our ire is insufficient? We're not nasty enough, as well as not nice? Seems we're damned if we do and damned if we don't.

Ya also got different posters sayin' different things, just sayin'.

I'm not actually complaining faith. I'm making it so other threads don't get hijacked in favour of misapplying labels on me.

I don't think I'm better than anyone but I am seeing some pretty shitty reading comprehension and misguided judgment. Wouldn't that imply you're the ones looking down on me?

I do defend my position in a debate because I think my arguments are reasonable. I've yet to see any real challenge to them beyond the usual blustering attempts to shame me into silence.

Hmmm. That's really not what that last post I quoted to you looked like, but since I'm not the least bit invested in this, I'll take your word for it. But are you saying everyone here has been looking down on you by what they've said? Going back over just this thread, sure, there's been some that have accused you of being a troll, but others who have not. Hell, even in my own case, I only got my back up over the blocking of handicapped parking spaces. So, I think that might be a broad brush that's coloring your perception. Care to clarify?

I'd disagree with the fact that there's been "no real challenge" to your specious arguments, but "attempts to shame you into silence" have been made? Truly? You're not trotting out the old bullying canard, are you? We're on a message board, for Pete's sake, no one is being water boarded.

I seem to be spending a lot of time clarifying things that have already been clarified.

I wrote in my OP that I was pitting those unkind to me. If you the description don't fit, then you aren't the one I pit.

You can disagree all you like but I have yet to see someone make a case for people with non-functioning legs driving licensed vehicles aka the first point I got called a troll for. I have also not yet heard your justification for the occupation of a parking stall for 2 minutes warranting a call to the police.

Bullying card? No, but what happens is points get lost in favour of unreasoned ethical challenges. Example: I don't think the police should be called over a parking spot means I think it's okay to park in handicap stalls ergo, I'm an unethical piece of shit. Cue subsequent name calling, yadda yadda yadda. That type of argument isn't my fail, it's yours.

Sorry.

First of all, apropos of the plenty of small children who are left in hot cars in the summer, the justification that it's "only 2 minutes" rings untrue. Half the time, you can't even get in the door that quickly, let alone find what you're looking for, pay out and return. If you'd like to keep clinging to your disingenuousness, be my guess. If it's of no consequence to the police, who I've seen ticket cars that do this for their pleasure (as happened last week), then I'm positive the kindly dispatcher would inform me.

I'm sorry, but could you quote where I called anyone an "unethical piece of shit"? Although I now understand how points can be lost in favor of unreasoned ethical debate. Thanks. In my second post in this thread, I said this only this part that could be seen as inflammatory:

And is your argument really that, because the cops wouldn't give a shit, therefore it's okay to be a giant flaming fucktard?

As to the shitty reading comprehension that some posters have exhibited, I'd say that the discerning reader would understand that I was asking you to clarify (something you apparently must need to do a lot, therefore the issue falls to others and not the writer?) your position and, if it was such, then it would make you a giant flaming fucktard. A small distinction perhaps, but apparently one that needs to be pointed out.

And I do see where none of this your fault whatsoever. Mea culpa for thinking you were purely here for intellectual stimulation and, shucks, you just can't help it if everyone else is out to grind your gears.

One final note....... just because you don't like the arguments presented to rebut your beliefs, doesn't make them invalid. It just makes them unpalatable to you.

R J Squirrel 27th June 2014 01:33 PM

Gee, it seems more and more any criticism, rebuttal or even response can lead to accusations of attempted censorship. It wasn't said you can't say it, just that they disagree.

So we have gone from diabetic grannies to small kids being left in hot cars, neither of which have anything to do with the point at hand. At this point in this "debate", I am waiting for your justification for taking up police time and resources over occupying a handicap parking stall for a couple of minutes.

I'm not quite sure where I am being disingenuous. I suspect that comment is born out of my above circumstance where you make up things I've said and then pin them on me.

Quote:

I didn't say you called me an unethical piece of shit. It's the underlying premise of your perverted points that have nothing to do with what I am saying.

Thank you for providing an example of exactly what I'm talking about. I didn't say the cops wouldn't give a shit. I asked you why you would waste their time with something rather insignificant in the grand scheme of things (grannies with low blood sugar and hot children in cars aside). I also didn't say the person who would occupy said space isn't a fucktard. That is the application of your own flawed reasoning. I'm not trying to be a twat about this but that is what is happening here.

Quote:

I understand what you were doing, but you've asked me to clarify a point that you perverted to say something that I didn't even say. It's been clear. If you need further clarification, go back and read what's been said. If you still can't grok it, then let me know and I will rephrase it for your benefit.

Quote:

What am I supposed to be taking blame for exactly? I think the moniker of troll is misapplied and unwarranted.

Quote:

I haven't deemed anything "invalid" and they aren't unpalatable. I just can't take credit for something I didn't say an then be asked to defend a position I don't have.

In summary, the question to you that remains is what is your justification for taking up police time and resources over occupying a handicap parking stall for a couple of minutes?

Nobody said that.

If your first posts on a board get people riled up, don't start a new thread whining that people weren't nice.

Unless you want people to think you're trolling, or at the least, attention-whoring. It's just tiresome.

You first -- what's your justification for occupying a handicap parking stall if you're not handicapped? The sign doesn't say "two minutes is okay". It says Handicap Parking Only.

The cops can decide based on their workload whether or not they will respond.

Nobody said that.

If your first posts on a board get people riled up, don't start a new thread whining that people weren't nice.

Unless you want people to think you're trolling, or at the least, attention-whoring. It's just tiresome.

In summary, the question to you that remains is what is your justification for taking up police time and resources over occupying a handicap parking stall for a couple of minutes?
You first -- what's your justification for occupying a handicap parking stall if you're not handicapped? The sign doesn't say "two minutes is okay". It says Handicap Parking Only.

The cops can decide based on their workload whether or not they will respond.

I didn't and don't justify occupying a handicap space for two minutes. My original comment was that it isn't something I'd get all worked up about. It's certainly not something I would bother the police with. That to me is right up there with that lady who called 911 because she didn't get cheese on her cheeseburger.

It wasn't my first post and I wasn't actually whining but I am getting to know some of you folks. :)

Ooooh, my new cupcake avatar has shown up. Whadaya'll think? It speaks to me, "Eat moar cupcakes!"

That's just awesome.

Who told you you were unwelcome? You're doing fine. You back up your points cogently, and even deferred on one of my points. Digression is par for the course.
Justify involving the police? To deter the behavior? It's a minor matter sure, but I trust the cops to triage the calls appropriately. If they are close and idle, maybe the scofflaw gets his comeuppance. Probably not. The police resources involved are marginal.

C'mon guys, lay off the troll thing. You're like trolling her calling her that.

People are going to think we mean troll as a bad thing.
