The 80s Lyric Quiz...

I got 91.1

http://www.yetanotherdot.com/asp/80s.html

Revs 9th April 2010 03:44 PM

Damn, I only got a 54.4, but that's not bad considering I was born in '84.

Borborygmi 9th April 2010 04:15 PM

blank smoked my 59.25, too. If I understand correctly, I appear to have been dinged pretty badly for being born right before Woodstock.

HongKongFooey 9th April 2010 04:27 PM

Aw man, 79.

SoylentPopTart 9th April 2010 05:02 PM

60.3

I knew a few more would have came to me if I had stuck with it. I have to pull the Alzheimer's card on this one.

Euryphaessa 9th April 2010 05:06 PM

76.something (I just accidentally closed the window). It was oddly impressed with me for getting

Africa by Toto, Don't You Want Me by whoever (I only know the Reel Big Fish version), and "colitas".

I'm with Soylent, there were a few I totally should have gotten but I rushed it. Still, not bad for being born in '89.

WednesdayAddams 9th April 2010 07:28 PM

86. I don't know whether to be proud or ashamed.

I was born right after Woodstock. Three days after.

89.5! Suck it, bitches!!

Except Blank, he can give it a nice pat and call it cute.

Bonkers 9th April 2010 08:03 PM

48.5.. :smack:

Salambo 9th April 2010 08:18 PM

I missed two. 98. And the two I missed, upon reveal, were major :smack: moments.

No, I didn't cheat. But I do work retail, and the radio is usually set to a station that plays A LOT of 80s stuff. So things I didn't already know growing up (which was more than a fair amount) easily had the gaps filled in by the rarely rotating playlist of drudgery for the past four years of my life.

Final score: 165.5

I'm a sad music geek.

With an appropriate title..

Well done. :)

Turing Complete 9th April 2010 08:52 PM

I got 83, but I'm unhappy with the scoring. Billie Jean, Jessie's girl? Had them but lost on the spelling. I was close on a lot of others too without being right on.

BTW, what song is the lyric, "Her name is Rio and she dances on the sand" from?

Rio by Duran Duran.

I see what you did, there.

Revs,

jali 10th April 2010 07:42 AM

40.075 born before the Twist.

Jesse. I want that point.

This was fun.

Lungfish 10th April 2010 09:58 AM

70.

Apparently the line in Bryan Adams 'Summer of 69' is not:
Quote:

I got my first real sex - dream, Bought it at the five-and-dime.
as I thought, but actually:
Quote:

I got my first real six - string, Bought it at the five-and-dime.
Huh.

SweetPea 24th April 2010 08:08 AM

Old thread, I know. I've been busy and I'm catching up on some threads. Sue me. ;)

I'm not sure if I'm proud of my 123 or not...there were an awful lot of really cheesy songs on there...

Yeah, I misspelled Jesse too! :smack:

It gave me a score of 123, but by my count I earned only 103.

I missed 32, but got 2/3 bonus questions correct. Many questions I got the two blanks reversed, or correctly guessed one of two.

Notables: 10 pts for #83!* 5 pts for #19, 4 pts for #44, 55, 86. A couple threesies and a whole lot of twosies.

*Not even an 80s song! :science:

There are a few that aren't really "eighties" songs, as they were simply remakes of older ones. And I missed "Jessie" as well (and "billie", and for that matter a few others due to actual misspellings).

Rebo 24th April 2010 10:37 AM

38.25. :sciencefail:

Give me one from the 70's!!!

I probably could do better from the 70s as well, or even the 90s. I didn't listen to the radio much in the 80s.

"California Girls" and "Venus" were remakes, yes, but done by 80s bands*. No one's remade a popular version of "Hotel California" yet.

*Yes, I consider DLR a one-man band. His ego is larger than the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

Lo-Slung Denim 24th April 2010 12:29 PM

52.5.

I was born in '82, but have an appalling memory and have never been hugely interested in music. I started the '90s quiz but got distracted.

However, I did get

Grandmaster Flash - The Message.

If it was a quiz about that song, I'd win. I know all the lyrics(somehow sank through the bad memory layers!). All four verses, not just the abridged two-verse version.

Taur 24th April 2010 12:42 PM

103.5 and I guess I lost a bonus for not telling him how I found the quiz. D'ya think it's apparent I was managing a retail record store in the 80s? :D

AuntiePam 24th April 2010 12:44 PM

:meek: 9.5

So what! That's my kids' music. I'm surprised I got any of them.

Taber 28th April 2010 02:18 PM

I like how it commended me for

getting colitas from reading straight dope

but I still screwed up

rio, by duran duran

OutStandingInTheField 28th April 2010 02:42 PM

I got a measly 50.4, and the 80s was my decade! However, this quiz is skewed towards what was presumably popular in North America, which is not the music I was listening to (not being in North America at the time). I remember listening to re-broadcasts of Casey Kasem's "American Top 40" on the radio and laughing at the weird shit you guys listened to. :)

Seeker of Truth & Beauty 29th April 2010 12:02 AM

I only got 45.25. I lost 30 fecking percent because I'm old! Life ain't fair, I tell ya.

I got colitas and Rio and misspelled Jessie.

St. Urho 29th April 2010 03:56 AM

Final Score: 145.5

Born in 1980

:D
