Water broke

So as to avoid further hijacking of mle's thread, my water broke.

Doc is rushing me in, told me to have hospital bag packed, husband is on his way. It might not be time just yet, as I don't think I'm in labour. Could well get sent home, but labour is imminent.

Definitely water breaking, didn't pee myself. ;)

Solfy 7th October 2010 08:42 AM

Wheee! Commence countdown to Salambaby!

wring 7th October 2010 08:46 AM

Go, baby, go!

DoubleJ 7th October 2010 08:49 AM

Just please keep your hands away from the husband's lower lip. I'm sure he'll appreciate the consideration.

Solfy 7th October 2010 08:52 AM

When my mom was pregnant with my brother and her water broke, she went to the hospital. The intake nurse was condescending. "Are you sure, honey? Because sometimes when you're really pregnant you might pee a little bit and think your water is broken."
Mom said, "Yes I'm sure! I didn't drink this much all month!" Besides, it was green, which is a double plus ungood thing that the doctor needed to know.

Borborygmi 7th October 2010 08:56 AM

BABBY IMMINENT! BEST WISHES, SALAMBO!

:) It merely meant that my little brother was an alien being from another galaxy. But he's just fine now.

SmartAleq 7th October 2010 09:03 AM

Go, go, go, Slambabby! Fervent wishes for a speedy, uncomplicated and easy delivery, may the Mother hold you both in her hand!

This is the part where I take shameless advantage of being a man by huddling in the corner and peeking through my fingers once in awhile. With earplugs.

Eee! Good luck, Salambo!

jali 7th October 2010 10:22 AM

Oh yeah!

I'm boiling water!

Solfy 7th October 2010 10:23 AM

As nice as it may sound on the face of it, I don't think I'd wish a 2hr labor on anyone. Yikes!

WednesdayAddams 7th October 2010 10:28 AM

ARGH, late to the party as always. Salambo, when you get back, I hope the labor goes quickly and you have a really good looking anesthesiologist.

Fast labors run in my family. When my mom was having my sister, my dad was still filling out paperwork when they congratulated him on his new daughter. I think we hold the world record for fastest first time delivery- 4 hours.

And yay for Salambabby!

(I wasn't so lucky.)

I expect this baby to be reading at a 2nd grade level by the middle of next week.

My second weighed 9 lbs and I was in labor for an hour and a half (or four weeks- depending on how you look at it...) and yikes does not even begin to describe it.

I actually STOPPED HAVING CONTRACTIONS and refused to move a muscle until I was given the most amount of drugs possible. I compared it after to being hit by a truck. My midwife got there and told me, essentially, that it was too late and I needed to quit cussing and scaring the hospital staff and have the baby.

At my checkup I told her that it had been the most nightmarish 3 hours EVER and she said "Um... it was only 1 1/2 hours..."

Why would you expect that? It's not like Salambo's a Doper.

Jeff 7th October 2010 11:09 AM

Jeez, I guess we only get the dumb babies here. :sciencefail:

WATCH OUT SALAMBO

MissJeanLouise 7th October 2010 11:12 AM

This is true--we expect the Slambabby to have learned how to sit on Mommy's shoulder and squawk "AAAWWWK, PIECES OF EIGHT, PIECES OF EIGHT, AAAWWWK!!" by the middle of next week.

:drugnerd:

And how to make scurvy dogs walk the plank by the week after that!

whirlingbladesofkick 7th October 2010 11:21 AM

C'mon slambabby! C'mon slambabby!

(I like that name, it's the easiest one to type.)

Our midwife told us that her opinion is that everyone experiences roughly the same amount of total pain during labor, but with long labors you get to spread that pain out over many hours, and with fast labors you get it all at once. My wife almost slaps people when they tell her that she is so lucky to have had such a short labor.

GreyCloud9 7th October 2010 11:35 AM

*thinks happy, healthy, babby thoughts.*

Carolia 7th October 2010 11:58 AM

Slambabby is on the way? Alright! May the labor be as quick and easy as possible!

Romola 7th October 2010 12:24 PM

Yayyy!

Burnt Toast 7th October 2010 12:28 PM

::: waiting patiently for pictures :::

Well? Anything yet?

Salambo 7th October 2010 01:01 PM

You guys are cracking my shit up. :)

Confirmed: water has broken.
Confirmed: doctor has rough hands! OW OW OW!

We went to his office, where he confirmed that I did not pee myself. He checked a few other stats, then sent us over to the hospital. They hooked me up to the stress monitor dealie thing to make sure the baby sounds normal and isn't tangled up in the cord or anything like that. I stayed hooked up to that thing for about one butt-numbing hour, then doc himself came in and checked some more things out. Babby is dropping rapidly.

Still not in labour!

He told us to go home, let me eat, relax, pack a few more things in our bag (nurse says: BRING MOVIES - sweet. My two favourite movies are Snatch and Hot Fuzz. Woohoo! Hubs says we should bring some Futurama, too) and maybe take a nap. We go back in at 6pm, and if I'm not in labour by then, they're going to induce.

She's coming today, one way or the other. She's in there happily kicking away. I'm randomly standing up and gushing. I'm well protected, those big ugly pads I bought are a real life-saver, but it still feels like I'm flooding my pants. Ugh!

Hubby has remained calm throughout. I was more serene this morning; after getting off the phone with the doctor and calling my husband, I just started doing housework. Hum dee ho. Took the garbage out, loaded the dishwasher, wiped the counters. La di da.

Now I'm starting to feel amped. I feel that electric line of adrenaline humming just below the surface of my skin.

ETA: HA! My husband is using this time in between to finally put the crib together. I think babby lit a little fire under him today!

Pirate 7th October 2010 01:02 PM

::faints::

Yah!!!

DogMom 7th October 2010 01:03 PM

For some reason the thought of watching a movie called Snatch while giving birth amuses me to no end. :D I'm probably going to hell for snickering at that.

jali 7th October 2010 01:05 PM

I walked in circles around the house after I was sent home. I had to burn off the energy.

Yay little babby! We love you already!

Snatch is my ALL TIME favorite movie.

puttering 7th October 2010 01:05 PM

Snatch. The most appropriately-titled birth movie ever.

When come back, bring babby.

ETA: Oh, poop. I just saw DogMom's post.

Salambo 7th October 2010 01:08 PM

*hi fives jali for Snatch* You damn right, that's the greatest movie EVAR!

I think both movies have funnily inappropriate titles. :m:

DoubleJ 7th October 2010 01:10 PM

Hot Fuzz too, depending on whether Salambo keeps things trimmed. Just bring in Troll and get the babby trifecta :)
