Should I go to work tomorrow?

If my work isn't closed tomorrow, should I go in?

Solfy 1st February 2011 05:26 PM

If it would not be dangerous for you to do so, you should. If it is dangerous, you should tell work to sod off because no job is worth getting dead.

HongKongFooey 1st February 2011 05:26 PM

Can you get there safely? If so, then yes.

Kat 1st February 2011 05:29 PM

Well, the NWS says do not drive, but that's for tonight and early tomorrow morning (something like 5 am). The worse of the snowing is supposed to be over by the time I usually leave (about 7:15) but who knows what the roads will be like.

However, I told my sister I was going to poll the Internet about this. :D

Are you essential? Will they survive without your shiny smiling presence? It's a snow day, have some cocoa for goodness sake.

Wombat

Jaglavak 1st February 2011 05:33 PM

I voted for 'Send a wombat in a sub' because a wombat sized submarine would be awesome.

Random Precision 1st February 2011 05:33 PM

I say no, but really it is between you, your conscience and your boss. If it looks dangerous, stay home. The work will still be there when you get back to it. Of course, it will have grown some since you last saw it.

Kat 1st February 2011 05:35 PM

They'll probably survive, if one of the other 3 people who can do my job manage to get in, but I believe I'd have to use up a sick day if I call in, and I prefer to save those for my doctor's appointments when I can (if I can't get in 2 of them can't either, because we live in the same complex).

Unfortunately, 99% of my commute is on a major highway, so it'll probably be plowed out.

Jaglavak 1st February 2011 05:38 PM

Hey, all it takes is 300 yards that you can't get through and it doesn't matter if the rest of it is wide open or not. You still can't get there.

Lord Blackmore 1st February 2011 06:46 PM

Our offices are closed, but they expect us to work from home. I have plenty to work on, so it works for me.

eleanorigby 1st February 2011 07:11 PM

I don't have to work it, but my RN job gave the 3 scheduled patients for tomorrow the choice: did they want to reschedule their elective surgeries for another day?

NONE of them rescheduled, so now 2 surgical teams, one Ambulatory Care nurse and 2 Recovery Room nurses have to go in.

Kat 2nd February 2011 05:51 AM

They're closed! (I got up this morning, called to check if we were closed, and then went back to sleep for 3 hours.)

shamrock 2nd February 2011 06:38 AM

**staring jealously at Kat and eleanorigby and Lord Blackmore from my stupid desk at my stupid work**

(and if I have to hear the "We are a public utility. We are an essential part of the infrastructure. We even get to be on the roads in a State of Emergency when no one else is allowed!*" pep talk again I am going to take a bat to my boss or his boss (that crap comes right from the top - but I am not driving to headquarters today to beat on the VPs)

*yeah, that's said like it's a good, really super duper cool thing.

eleanorigby 2nd February 2011 07:54 AM

Shamrock: technically, I am on call to relieve any nurses who have worked too long or whatever. I am a horrible person and am actively hoping that they have forgotten all about little-I-only-work-once-a-week-there me.....

But today I was supposed to be a the Library--not one of the front line troops, anyway. Yay!

So we can reset the poll for tomorrow? Everyone needs a "mental health day" from time to time.

My vote is always 'if you have to ask the question, you shouldn't go, ya wombat' I love to take the 4wd out in the snow and play but sometimes I question if it's a good idea. That's when I know it's better to stay in.
