Temporally Displaced -- the Forbidden Thread for Felt vs. MC

Non-player and Dead discussion thread, no Living or potentially Living players, snarking welcome, etc, the usual.

Snark at XYZZY on Day 3.

Suburban Plankton 15th February 2011 09:58 AM

I'm glad I'm only watching this one. I'm already confused...

mlerose 15th February 2011 10:24 AM

Yeah, I don't think I could handle playing in this game. But I'll gladly watch.

Suburban Plankton 15th February 2011 10:33 AM

mlerose, you get a 'free pass' after your last performance. Everybody knows it's "impossible" to win as a PFK.

:science:

mlerose 15th February 2011 10:41 AM

Aw, thanks SP!

DogMom 16th February 2011 08:37 AM

Dang, I may not even watch this one. My brain already hurts. Voting in the past? Pulling votes from other Days?

Athletic sock 16th February 2011 08:56 AM

It's simple. You can vote two times per day. But that second vote has to come from somewhere -- or better somewhen.

The problem arises when paradoxes form. Ex:

peeker gets lynched Day 1, thanks to extra votes by Scumbot and Giraffe pulling in votes from Day 3. But Scumbot gets Night-killed Night 1 and Giraffe gets lynched Day 2. As they are Dead on Day 3, their extra votes cannot be cast back on Day 1. Who got lynched on Day 1, and what color was the bear?

Suburban Plankton 17th February 2011 08:27 AM

And Idle picks up a vote for not claiming Town in his first post...

:science:

mlerose 17th February 2011 08:47 AM

Sometimes I wish Nelson Muntz were my sock, so I could go in and HAW HAW. This is one of those times.

Suburban Plankton 17th February 2011 09:41 AM

I think in the next game I play, I'm going to claim Scum in my very first post, just to see what happens...

I'd pay money to see that.

It'll be entirely in Third Zimbabwe Dollars, but it's still money, right? :m:

Dirx 19th February 2011 10:53 AM

Ed's got the right idea regarding banking votes. He probably won't survive to Day 7, so the chances of him going voteless then are small. He's now able to double-up on Day 2 with almost no risk.

Red Skeezix 21st February 2011 05:23 AM

I hope now someone will realize: Skim tell <> Scum tell. I swear people say it all the time, and then someone comes along, and say OMFG YOU DIDN'T READ EVERY POST AND MISSED THINGS, YOU ARE OBVIOUSLY SCUM. I generally go: hey buddy, you didn't account for x,y,z.

Renata 21st February 2011 10:22 AM

Haven't read the day at all yet, Skeez, but I'm amazed at how often you're a day one lynch when town, and usually over the STUPIDest things. Usually day one lynches don't gravitate to people with your playstyle, either. What is it, are you wearing a "kick me" sign or something?

Renata 21st February 2011 10:22 AM

Also, can I be spoiled?

The worst part is i tend to be a day one lynch, when I'm a useful town power. I get forced into a claim, and then whammo someone makes a better one, and I get to eat it. Although in jane austen mafia two scummers went at me and influenced the votes.

Today I got lynched for skimming (moody and romanic) and for defending myself (Ulla). Ulla usually makes pretty air tight cases when she's town. And her case against me (He's spent half the day defending himself, he must be scum!) is manufactured baloney. Ulla is scum.

Renata 21st February 2011 12:13 PM

I've only seen one real case of skimming=scum that I remember.

Suburban Plankton 22nd February 2011 12:37 PM

peeker in Night 1 Post 21:

"and remember what is the scum motivation? why would romanic paint a big ol' target on his back? because if he flips scum then naturally anything he said about idle is suspect. and if he flips town then scum just whack idle at some point."

I agree with him; it makes no sense for Romanic to come out with that claim if it wasn't truthful. But I made exactly the same argument about Ed for the better part of 2 Days in the last game here...and he was Scum.

peekercpa 23rd February 2011 04:44 AM

damnation that was quick. i was kind of suspecting it might happen. i wonder now if i should have posted my pm during the Night. hell no, it will be fun to watch the group ponder implications. i lay even money that bill gets the closest.

peekercpa 24th February 2011 07:11 AM

totally unspoiled comment.

town is hosed if bill is scum (which i kind of think at this point). and does zeener always take both sides of every discussion? shit, i'd lynch him just to break him of that habit. i mean its one thing to be inconsistent from game to game, but less so during the same game and even more less so during the same fracking Day.

Renata 24th February 2011 07:27 AM

Since I'm spoiled, obligatory disclaimer that this is meant in no way to imply anything about anyone's alignment, it's just something that's bugging me.

People are FAR too dismissive or just unaware of how valuable it can be to have a trusted sounding board for your suspicions. I've been a mason when basically no one was talking in the mason thread but me, and it was still a valuable resource. Just being able to write things down freely, without any concern for impressions or need to be cautious about accuracy or worry about people thinking you're suspicious -- it's amazingly clarifying. (So are other aspects of the claimed role, but this is the one I'm interested in.)

The role might not be of much use to many players, true, because many players don't want or wouldn't use its full potential, but that potential IS there.

Couldn't you just post these things to yourself anyway?

I used to do that. Now I figure what's the point? It obviously wasn't making me a better player.

Dirx 24th February 2011 02:43 PM

I find it really helps me. And for some reason, writing it all out into notepad just doesn't have the same effect, for some reason. Even posting to an empty scum board where I'm the last one alive helps me clear my thoughts.

Renata 24th February 2011 04:42 PM

Somehow it matters that someone else is listening. I don't know why. It might just be that it motivates me to work a little harder. It might be that speaking to a known friendly audience puts my mind into that nice sweet spot between too suspicious and not suspicious enough. It definitely helps in terms of being aggressive and confident to know there's someone out there who will have my back if it's needed (though Romanic's claim doesn't fit that part of it entirely).

You're a fine player, Ed; I don't know why you're so hard on yourself. On another board I play at I've lost 7 games in a row (soon to get even worse, the way the next-finishing game is going), and my record as scum is something like 1 and 5. These things go in cycles. I think I'm trying to remind myself as much as you, actually.

peekercpa 25th February 2011 05:09 AM

plus it helps to have someone to bounce wacky ideas off of. i mean then they get to poke holes it them but then at times it becomes a tweak this and that and it becomes workable.

not to mention it typically gives you something to do at Night.

The problem with this is that Idle doesn't know if he can trust Romola's information. So he still has to be careful about everything he posted.

Also, I wish this was a Homestuck or Pickle InspectorProblem Sleuth game. I know those two. I found the Intermission to be too confusing to read.

Dirx 2nd March 2011 03:09 PM

Not sure why Romanic hasn't tried pulling a vote from another Day. Makes more sense than trying to send his current--blocked--vote elsewhen.

I haven't been following too closely, but I'm really hoping that Zuma and/or Giraffe are not scum. Because then it means scum is pulling a rather good one over the rest of the players, and scum winning always makes me happy. :D

Trepa Mayfield 3rd March 2011 09:04 AM

Any of you want to sub in? I'd ask around for subs, but I don't think anyone who wasn't already following along could catch up at this point.

Dirx 3rd March 2011 09:49 AM

Is someone actually subbing out? I saw SisC's comment, but I thought she was just joking.

Not Sis C--Lucifer.

Scuba Ben 3rd March 2011 12:03 PM

Erk. Wrong thread.

Romanic 8th March 2011 08:10 PM

Hey HB, can you spoil me please? :)

Also, sorry about the D1 lynch Red. :(

Renata 9th March 2011 06:31 AM

Excuse me while I fangirl you for getting yourself killed, by whatever means it happened.

Well done, that.

Metallic Squink 11th March 2011 07:04 AM

It will be interesting to see what happens if this game makes it to Day 6 or 7 and no one has any votes left.

Scuba Ben 11th March 2011 08:14 AM

Hmm -- good point, Squink.

Of course then people start pulling votes from Tomorrow. Lather, rinse, borrow again.

ETA: My mistake.

No they can't. There's a possibility of one Day with very few eligible voters.

Dirx 11th March 2011 08:57 AM

Hm... You know, it would be in Town's best interests to keep track of who has votes available for later Days. A good scum tactic would be to leave voteless townies alive so they can force a mislynch despite not having larger numbers.

Exactly. If I were scum with the last vote, I might be like "I'll just vote whatever way you all want me to" knowing that town will pick another townie to lynch.

Romanic 11th March 2011 10:02 AM

Dirx 11th March 2011 10:12 AM

<potential spoilers scrubbed>

I thought Special Ed used a Day 6 or 7 vote somewhere early on. Did he unvote it? Either way, we know he was town too.

Trepa Mayfield 11th March 2011 10:20 AM

Sorry about that, but due to the high chance of current players accidentally wandering in here, spoilers in this thread are not allowed. Speculation, yes, confirmation or counter-confirmation, no.

Romanic 11th March 2011 10:37 AM

Ack, sorry, I didn't realize what I was doing. Not used to this kind of thread. :(

S'okay. I made the exact same mistake like a week ago, it happens.

What's a Janitor role?

A Janitor is a Scum player who cleans up after the NK. Come Dawn, the identity (and usually the circumstances) of the dead player are not posted in the opening color.

In some cases, the NK is revealed the next Day.

Total Ulla 19th March 2011 03:09 AM

Sorry for not being more around lately in the game. I'd like to be spoiled :)

Can't wait to figure out how you worked out the balance in this game!!!

Dirx 21st March 2011 02:13 PM

I'm on the edge of my seat. I have no idea who is what, and I'm dying to find out if the scum will pull this off.

Scuba Ben 22nd March 2011 06:08 AM

Bamm bamm bamm goes the hammer. Should someone be concerned about Bob pounding the hammer on making a tie? I can't tell if that's self preservation or scummy.

Shame on the Town (whichever player that may be) for not figuring out this might happen and pulling in another vote.

Metallic Squink 22nd March 2011 07:10 AM

Bob is looking really scummy right now.
