I Haz A Leg!

I finally got my prost...prostha...proske...my artificial leg yesterday and wore it for about an hour of therapy today! It's pretty much the beginning of the last step to getting things back to normal...I will have photos after therapy tomorrow (if I remember to bring my phone).

I've decided to name it Herbie. The minute I saw it all I could think of was this video...

Sleeps With Butterflies 12th April 2012 07:35 PM

Jayjayz can haz leg!

jayjay 12th April 2012 07:42 PM

I had to stifle my LOL so I don't wake up my roommate! I'd never seen that one.

stormie 12th April 2012 09:54 PM

YaY! Total WIN Where are the pics huh?

Jaglavak 13th April 2012 12:11 AM

Congrats! Did it come with an eye patch and a parrot?
What do you feed the parrot, anyway?

eleanorigby 13th April 2012 04:09 AM

I see they've given you a leg up.

My partner has threatened repeatedly to get those for me...

Dragonlady 13th April 2012 04:29 AM

How about a Salambo?

I think what you really need is a wench with a cute kid.

Wolf Larsen 13th April 2012 04:33 AM

You named it after Herbie Popnecker? That's really cool!

jali 13th April 2012 04:52 AM

Yay, Jay.
Hey Hey Hey.
Happy Day.
Hooray, Hooray.

Popinki 13th April 2012 07:05 AM

Or better yet, a hidden flask ;)

Clothahump 13th April 2012 07:50 AM

Well, we won't be able to accuse you of not having a leg to stand on from now on.

And conga-rats, btw. Big-time!

Burnt Toast 13th April 2012 09:43 AM

Great news!

Monstera deliciosa 13th April 2012 09:47 AM

I'm very happy for you! We don't interact much, but you have always been one of my favorite posters, here and at the SDMB.

And thanks for linking the Herbie Hancock video; I haven't heard or thought about that for years.

Carolia 13th April 2012 02:25 PM

Can you draw on it? That would be like having a tattoo with nobody shoving needles under your skin!

Glad to hear you'll be back on two feet full time before you know it!

jayjay 13th April 2012 02:55 PM

Me wearing Herbie (and an oh-so-fashionable therapy belt)

maplekiwi 13th April 2012 07:05 PM

Congratulations!

Peeking Duck 13th April 2012 07:13 PM

You look great!

Dragonlady 13th April 2012 07:14 PM

With enough room in the part that connects to his stump, he might be able to fit a (several times folded up) spare.

The jokes about a third* leg would, how do you say, write themselves.

*And fourth.

JayJay, you had mentioned there would be a semi permanent leg to do therapy with, then a final one, I thought? Which one is this?

Flying Saucerian 14th April 2012 12:59 PM

Yay! Now you'll be able to run at super-speed and work for the government and solve crimes!

This is the semi-permanent one, but it's only semi because in about 3 months, my stump will probably not fit anymore...it's still changing almost daily. Right now, I can compensate by different thicknesses of prosthetic socks, but relatively soon it will probably need to be recast and remade. Until then, this is my official prosthesis, though.

Popinki 14th April 2012 04:17 PM

Awww, you and Herbie make such a cute pair :D

I always wonder this - why for the therapy belt? I feel like every time I see video or pictures of people in physical therapy, they always have belts like that. Is physical therapy imbue pants with the irresistible urge to head southwards, or it gives the physical therapist a better handle with which to prevent you crashing floorwards, or what? Either way, you, Herbie, and Belt all look great!

love

The latter...it gives the therapist a handle to support you without giving you a wedgie, especially if you're not terribly strong on your legs yet and have trouble standing up. Of course, from having a practical purpose, it becomes a protocol, so even people who can stand up like Spartacus impersonators without any help have to wear them while they're doing any therapy that requires standing or walking.

You'll need to update your business cards to say "jayjay, Cyborg". It's like esquire, but oh so much better.

DogMom 17th April 2012 11:29 AM
