Spock was on the series before Kirk, if you count the unaired (til years later) first pilot, sure, but if not for Kirk, no Holy Trinity would have existed. Can you seriously imagine Spock and Bones obsessing over any other friend the way they did Kirk?

How different the series, and maybe the franchise, would have been if Jeffery Hunter remained Captain? He was the King of Kings, but Bill Shat-head was the Kirk of Kirks.

Kirk was central to the very existence of Star Trek. Gene wanted a Horatio Hornblower type captain to lead a Wagon Train to the stars.

Aw, this is hard. I do think Spock is a better character, but without Kirk (and McCoy) he wouldn't have lived up to his full potential. If he'd kept working for Pike, would he have grown up to fuck with the Romulans? Doubtful. On the other hand, big green dick and sexy foreign language.

Eh. Tough, tough call. Probably Spock had the bigger impact on the public consciousness overall, but neither he, Kirk nor McCoy would really have worked quite the same without the other two. Spock, I think, is definitively the Vulcan - they've had other characters, and obviously Tuvok was in far more episodes than Spock was, but no-one for me has ever been quite as convincing as Spock. And yet...

Well, I've made my choice. Let's see how it goes.

If the question's "Who's the better actor and better human being?" It's Nimoy (and this is after Nimoy's death. He's still a better person than Shatner). If the question is "Who'd win in a fight?", it's Kirk, unquestionably. Kirk's super-power is "He always wins".

After all this voting... it all came down to this and hardly anyone has even posted about the whole thing.
