official Hurricane Matthew survival thread
still too early to predict its path but it might hit here so I picked up some emergency supplies today. got some bottled water, canned beefaroni, batteries, and some shotgun shells for raiding and looting.
in a couple more days we'll probably be able to better predict where it's gonna hit. I'm thinking about getting a little propane camp stove or something so I don't have to eat cold canned soup |
The post-apocalypse requires a serious stash of Hostess Twinkies, per Zombieland, the documentary starring Emma Stone, as demonstrated by Woody Harrelson.
|
Really, the list needs some cheetos and other snacks.
Man (or woman) does not live by beefaroni alone. There sure are a lot of hurricanes that go through your area. Stay safe, PSXer. |
the other hurricanes this year either went on a different track or were weakened by the time they got here. we haven't had any big storms here for a while
Matthew would be the strongest to hit here in several years if it does |

Friend PSXer, is ya dead?
|
no
are there any Hatians on this board. not looking good there |
Haiti catches the worst of everything. Storms, earthquakes, governments each do more damage than the last.
|
Looks like Matt is going to be hitting my neck of the woods on Thursday. So long as it doesn't jog west any more, all I have to worry about is wind damage and maybe some minor flooding.
I'm fairly prepared, 25 gallons of water, 2 5-gallon containers I'll fill tomorrow night, canned food for at least a week, probably 2 if I'm careful. Batteries, flashlights, folding sterno stove and fuel & some other odds and ends. I can't seem to locate my pocket radio, which leaves me with my larger shortwave that runs on 6 D batteries, so thats not so good. Tomorrow is payday so I'll have to brave the walmart to grab the last couple of items I want. Also going to hit the used bookstore, gonna need to keep myself entertained if the power does go out. |
damn now I feel feebly unprepared. I don't even know if I still have a battery radio. Everyone always says you need one in an emergency but really what do you need it for. So I can hear the updates that it's still raining?
I'll see what they have at wal mart tomorrow |
Yeah I understand it's important to keep updated but it seems like people overstate the importance of the radio like the survival hierarchy is "water, food, radio"
|
Consider the source. The government is always big on herding people. You also might want to know what's happening.
|
I read somewhere that Obama is using his weather control machine to create more hurricanes so he can put us in FEMA camps
|
This is where you can show your keen intellect by being an early adopter. Get you one of them FEMA trailers all pimped out and you'll be styling and profiling.
|
I got liquor, TP, and ammo. The really important stuff.
|
gonna have to poop outside if the power goes out and I don't have enough water to flush the toilet

Walmart had a big propane stove for $50. I was hoping to get something smaller for cheaper. There was a lot of empty space on the shelves so maybe they had some but sold out

Walmart was out of flashlights and D batteries too. I already have flashlights.
The new model looks like the storm will hit Florida first then weaken some and hit the Carolinas |

Do you have a swamp boat?

no
I wish I was wealthy enough to own a boat |

I wouldn't want to put strangers' poop in my personal toilet
|
You could get to know them first so they wouldn't be strangers.
|
all ABC stores will be closing at 6pm tomorrow and stay closed Saturday for weather. And they're always closed on Sunday
good thing I stocked up |
Two frozen pizzas? What are you expecting, the apocalypse?

If they let people buy vodka on Sunday they won't go to church
|
Forecast now says it's gonna weaken and turn away from NC. Tropical storm watch in effect
Looking worse for my Florida friends |

Husband talked to his son yesterday (he lives in Cocoa), who said 'Don't worry, we're west of the storm'. Well, apparently they were only west temporarily, on a mini-vacation. Today they're back in Cocoa and won't leave, because their kids and the MIL won't leave, and there's a brand new grandbaby.
He says they're stocked with food and water and have a generator, and the windows are boarded up. Fingers crossed for everyone! |

Even the Department of Health couldn't close the Waffle House! This is a very powerful hurricane.
|
now begins the heavy rain
|
Remember, after a disaster be sure to check the Waffle House Index to see how bad the damage is.
|
First they cancel Dead Like Me and now they're closing Der Vaffle Haus. Disgusting.
|
Sending positive thoughts out to PSXer.
I'm not following the storm closely, particularly for his area, but some of the updates didn't sound good for the surrounding area. Take care, PSXer. |
Raining lightly now.
I have to work tonight but I still don't know about tomorrow night I hope they bought enough water http://i.imgur.com/GDFFH5il.jpg |
Glad to see you're doing well and will be well hydrated, PSXer.
|
Glad I went to St. Simons last month. They're getting pounded right now.
