Junes Joyless jaundiced journal (mini-rants)

I'm just too mellow and laid back to complain much, but I had a nice alliteration going. I'm going to borrow Senpai's.

You have my deep sympathy, Senpai. May it respond well to the meds.

UTIs are terrible and I hope you get over this one and never have another. I have had ONE (35 years ago!) and since then at the slightest symptoms I take cranberry pills.

my minirant should probably be a first world problem but I won't bother switching threads - I bought garlic twice in a row (the second time forgetting I had just got some) and then this morning at the farmer's market I got "spring" garlic. so now I have to google "can I freeze garlic" or similar. work, work, work. :p

I guess my minirant really is I can't remember things. the scary thing is, I know it's an issue so before going to the market I took a quick inventory and I had a list. then at the point of sale - chatting with the nice young farmer - I forgot I had garlic, twice now. in my defense it wasn't in the fridge were I took the inventory. :rebo:

Yes, you can. I used to do it all the time. One fringe benefit is that after you thaw a clove, they're easy to peel and they squish really easily, so no crushing or grating for whatever you're using them in. Just put 'em in a baggy, toss in the freezer, and take one out when you need one.

I received two texts yesterday, one from my barber and the other woman I was supposed to see on sunday

Barber said he was leaving early and won't be around at 6pm to cut my hair

The woman text me to say we have to change plans because she has to work this weekend due to a big project.

Now a good start for June. Atleast she told me 2 days ahead of time because I don't do same day cancellations unless it's a FIRE or DEATH

Senpai 2nd June 2018 01:20 PM

Sorry to ruin any alliterations! Jaundiced is a good word.

It's a heat index of 105 degrees F today, and even though you'd think our AC unit could cool our entire tiny lil' shack of a house... You, as well as I, would be wrong!

I'M MELTING! I'M MELTIIING! :witch:

Senpai 3rd June 2018 12:17 AM

Of course, a huge fight thing had to break out, too.

My friend and I used to have a much closer acquaintance, who on top of doing some pretty bad things to the both of us, haven't talked to us in ages after specifically promising that they would try to make an effort. Spoiler alert: they didn't. Me and friend confronted them and they busted out into a state of loud and angry vitriol that I have never seen them bust out into, it was completely alarming and put us on the defensive. They continued to give almost no answers to our questions and in short? Continued to be a huge butt before just, ditching us and going offline in the middle of our conversation.

At this point so many red flags have been raised that I am unsure if I want her as my friend anymore, but for the sake of my good other friend, tomorrow we are going to talk more and try to figure it out with clearer heads. Ugh. This is the age where all the drama begins, and where kids have what I like to call a Post-Pubescent Panic. I mean i'm having mine too, I guess i'm just more on the 'dealing with everyone elses' instead of 'I AM CAUSING ALL THE PROBLEMS'. Oh well. I'll live, but this sucks ridiculously.

I Think your defense is a nice young farmer. Nice young farmers can distract one. :wow:

Senpai, you don't want that person as your friend. In truth, you don't have that person as your friend. I think you have that person as an emotional remora who needs to be knocked off at the first available rock. But don't take my word for it: Captain Awkward

Report cards came. My boys are not going to have much fun this summer. I remember asking my own father once at what point did us kids actually listen to him. He said when we reached about 30. I don't know if I'll make it that long.

Jaglavak 3rd June 2018 08:20 AM

Oboy. Summer school?

wring 3rd June 2018 08:49 AM

Whine alert. Mostly stuff is good enough around here. but...

Today is Sunday. On Sunday mornings, we head to the local Big Boy restaurant and have their breakfast buffet (mmmmmm, bacon....), and today they even had those little corn nuggety things that I like. Also when we go, I hand out rubber ducks to all the kids (actually I hand them to their parents or grandparents, so I'm not handing things directly to kids but, whatever).

So, there comes an age where kids aren't thrilled by a random rubber duck. For boys, it's roughly 11 or 12, for girls, maybe 16 or so. Or so I've noticed. So, when it's one of the older, I pause and ask "too old for a rubber duck"? and sometimes, they'll admit that they aren't really too old.

N. E. How. So I was doing my ducking thing, and there's a table w/a woman and her 16 ish year old daughter. I pause by their table and ask if she's too old for a rubber duck, and apparently they didn't understand what I was asking or whatever. So I again say, is she too old for rubber ducks? and the mom looks at me and says "can I help you? or will you leave us alone so we can eat our breakfast".

Ok, so not everyone is into random acts from strangers. But I was rather taken aback. Put a damper on my mood, it did. Occasionally, some one will decline the duck (has happened maybe 7 or 8 times over the years), but that's fine. I've never before gotten some one react so... haughty. to top it off, right after that happened, I went back to my table, and I noticed something else-
the table next to us had grandparents, mom and 4 kids. I'd seen them when they first arrived and gave them ducks which pleased grandparents and kids. And as I was sitting down, I noticed that "dad" had also joined them. Remember when I said there was like a few times ducks had been declined? This dad is one of them. :sciencefail:

Took me a while before my mood got lighter. But I did, on the way out, hand a rubber duck to an old guy (maybe 70) whose friends had joked that he needed one, too.

So, I've been dealing with the dreaded musty smell from my front loader washing machine. Last weekend, I scrubbed the hell out of the rubber seal, inside and out, and then poured the last of my bleach into the washer and washed my washer. It helped some, but not enough. Friday, I stopped to purchase a big jug of bleach, vinegar and Tide washing machine washing soap.

Yesterday, I scrubbed the rubber gasket again, took out the soap dispenser, scrubbed the hell out of it and the area where the dispenser sits. After that, I ran the fancy Tide stuff through the washer and when it was done, left the door open.

This morning, I noticed the smell has decreased, but it's still there. I don't have an access door to my water pump and filter. I will now have to unscrew the kick plate and trying cleaning out the filter. God, I hope that's all I have to do.

I've never really had issues, and am pretty good about cleaning the gasket. I don't use liquid fabric softener because it can gunk things up quickly. I've had this washer a good many years now and it works like a charm; except for the musty smell in the last couple of weeks.

Also, I never knew until last weekend one is supposed to clean out the filter once a month. I've had this washer since 2004 or so, and I suppose I may have read that in the owner's manual, but I guess I just forgot that. :smack::sciencefail:

I'm very annoyed with myself because I was at bar trivia today and I caused our team to miss half a point on the song round because I wrote down the name of the song they played as My Lumps instead of My Humps.

I'm not sure what annoys me more: that I got the title wrong, or that I recognized the song in the first place.

I don't think you've lost anything at all.

Good on you for trying to salvage the relationship. But some people are best kept at a distance. In the long run you're better off without the extra drama. Keep your friends few and true.

Senpai 5th June 2018 09:46 AM

Of course there has to be more health problems. Something set off my carpal tunnel, and all of yesterday I couldn't move my arm at all without shooting, burning pain in my left arm, wrist and fingers. Only ice would calm it, but after icing I would have to keep my hand perfectly still, or else. :astonished:

I somehow managed to go to bed, and woke up in an anxiety attack from the pain. 20 minutes of shaking like a chihuahua, trying not to vom and icing my wrist. I fell back asleep and woke up with my arm feeling no better than the day previous. My mother graciously cross referenced all of my medications to her neurotin (or generic of it) and everything checked out. I took one, and sure enough, within 45 minutes i could curl my fingers without pain! Now I can move everything without severe blinding pain, which i'm savoring, the pain was so overwhelming. Hopefully this will be enough to calm my nerves down enough so that some good rest tonight will heal it up, or even tomorrow night.

TL;DR: carpal tunnel is debilitating but i'm in the process of healing. And yes, I did in fact type all of this with one hand. :science:

Mammograms really freaking hurt. I told my husband that a man must have invented that damn machine. He said that if he had invented a process, it would be much more hands-on and possibly involve nudity and soft music.

True. And the upside is that it's a very quick test. It was over in about 10 minutes with only about 3 of those minutes dedicated to boob squeezin.

You know, if they forced men to put their balls in such a contraption, they might come up with a better alternative pretty damn fast. That being said, there isn't any reason why a woman can't come up with a better option.

@Senpai, forgive me if you've talked about it and I don't recall - but have you had carpal tunnel release surgery? or, generally, what have you tried besides icing and medication?

"tendon glides" is what I'm wondering about - stretches specific to CTS

Nope. This is the first time it's flared so bad! CTS stretches seem to worsen it, I think I overextended something. I was doing a lot of arm work outside the other day. :(

Ice, heat, stretches and certain meds usually took care of any flare ups, but this is awful. I have things to be doing in a few days!! I just hope I can soothe this before Thursday. I'm going out of town, coming back home for 3 days and then flying out of town again to meet the Kouhai (girlfriend)!

Have you ever had your balls scanned for testicular cancer? No? You're a woman, and therefore don't have balls? It ain't very pleasant, either. It wasn't invented by a man. Both processes (tit-check and ball-check) were invented by one of Satan's subordinates. It was designed to be as humiliating as possible, and then topped off with a painful squeeze. Last time I had to have that done, it was a woman PA or NP doing it, and she told me that it might hurt a bit. When she did that last squeeze, I jumped. I really didn't mean to make her feel bad about that, but it is what it is...

NUT-CHECK!!!!

I wasn't looking for sympathy. I was merely mentioning that us guys frequently get it up the ass, too.

You do, of course, have twice as many holes for them to stick things in, but we get our one reamed, too. Fortunately, we don't have to have a foley very often.

truly I have seen people who ended up worse after certain surgeries - back and CTR especially.

I'm glad to hear you use ice, it's way underutilized in general. especially with old people. which I realize you are not.

really really minirant So, I'm asleep, dreaming, and in my dream, there's an alarm sounding off. No, wait, that's not a dream. Ice is my best friend. I'm allergic to aspirin and ibuprofen, so most painkillers and anti-inflammatories are completely off the table. With the added fact that I am extremely oversensitive to heat in the bad way, ice and peppermint oil are my two best friends. :)

And listen, with all of the ailments and medications I have had to go on in my short lifetime, as well as the activities that I personally enjoy doing... I might as well be an elderly person mentally. :haw:

Anacanapuna 6th June 2018 06:59 PM

Tis the season for wildfires. In spite of the wet week we had in May, and the countryside around being greener than I remember it, there's still a lot of fuel. Just got back from two prairie fires east of here -- miles and miles between county roads, sandy soil, no access, SCAT trucks had to grind two and three miles through sugar-like sand between the tender and the fire line. These are volunteers -- farm boys and town merchants and ranch hands, and they're out there now, pinching the fire between their trucks and a county road, hoping to God it doesn't jump the road. Not as bad as a year ago March when the water evaporated before it hit the flames, but bad enough.

ETA: Here's the story we're running today.

Aw Khampy I'm sorry.

on a much, much more minor health note . . . We here are experiencing the World of Pollen. It's like an Epcot adventure and my immune cells are having a party. I don't know if this is common knowledge, but your digestive system is essentially part of your outsides and has its own skinlike protection. Both these outer and inner skin cells are hosting Histapalooza. I've upped all my allergy-fighting stuff, which includes skin stuff, nose stuff, pills, and the ever-popular nose wash. Just got determination from Social Security. they don't think I'm disabled enough. They'd asked questions about what I did at prior jobs, all of it having to do with lifting, carrying etc., how much of my day was spent doing shit like that. And since I didn't do a whole lotta that, they're ignoring the fact that, yes, I can sit behind a desk. But my hands hurt too much to do anything. Can't write w/a pen, can type but only for short periods of time with long rests in between. what the fuck do they think some one is going to pay me to do? Sitting behind a desk and not doing anything isn't working. Yes, I'll appeal. but that also takes a really long time as well.
