May Magnificients (Raves)

May 1st and today is wet and T'Storms for the afternoon but this weekend is suppose to be 70° & 74° respectively. I've got yard work to do but I'm even looking forward to that. Then hang outside, drink some beer and grill!

MAYDAY! MAYDAY! The Moon is exploding!

They're airing the first episode of Space: 1999 right now. I love watching the Moon go sailing away. That's the only episode I ever watch - it's goofy but fun.

Helena 1st May 2020 09:41 AM

Wow, Space: 1999 is on Amazon Prime! I watched that show with my mom when I was a kid. I've occasionally looked for it to stream somewhere without success. Thanks for the nudge to look again, 3acres!

Bonus: Barbara Bain's character is "Helena". :D I'd forgotten that. Now I can say my username is from *two* strong women in sci-fi TV shows. At least, I remember Bain's character as being strong. I'd better watch again before I say anything. /blathering

May's Marvels (miniraves)

The confectionery store nearby is having an online sale with contactless pickup this weekend. I picked up up 4 packages of their specialty candies this morning. Yum!

Zeener Diode 2nd May 2020 01:19 PM

Earlier this week See's Candy donated several boxes of candy to my workplace. (By "several", I mean that these were boxes of boxes of candy.) (By "boxes of candy", I mean there were between 15-25 individual boxes inside the bigger boxes.) Choices of milk chocolate or nuts & chews, 1 pound or 2 pound.

Best Comic Strip ever. C&H that is, not the specific Sunday Comic.

Dragonlady 3rd May 2020 05:59 AM

Well..shit, Hoser.
Few things are worse than watching the person you love most struggle, maddeningly, from the sidelines.
Remember to take care of yourself.

When I read this post, I immediately knew what you were typing about, even before I clicked the link to the comic. When I first saw Hoser's avatar, I thought it was from an underground comic by an artist called S. Clay Wilson, but then I realized it wasn't that. I know I could have asked, but for some reason I didn't. Anyway, now I know.

Cheers!

So I just got a Pressure Washer delivered early. It took about 10 minutes to assemble and worked really well. My patio is cement but edged with flat bricks. The bricks are blackish brown and very mossy now. Well in a little over an hour, 70% of the bricks are red brick color again.

I should have done a before and after.

I bought this to clean my siding primarily. In the past I have climbed up a ladder with a hose, scrub brushes and bucket. I decided $200 was well invested. I can use it to clean the siding of the house, the driveway where it to has gotten mossy, the patio and cars. I'll probably find many other uses for it.

I like that.

Glazer 3rd May 2020 02:49 PM

Do not use the pressure washer to clean the windows. It can blow out old caulking and cause leaks.

Thanks for the warning. I'll avoid that.

If the caulking is that fragile, shouldn't it be replaced?

3acres 3rd May 2020 03:38 PM

Oh boy, the Urgo episode is on SG-1 tonight. I love that one. Dom DeLuise cracks me up so much in it, and apparently some of the other actors in his scenes were ready to lose it too. Less than a half hour to airtime!

No not necessarily. A pressure washer can blow through even new caulking. The old sealant only has to hold up against wind blown rain. But once you have a channel through, water will wick through anytime it gets wet. And the moisture will deteriorate more of the sealant as time goes on.

Replacing the caulking would mean removing the glass from the windows. Which would break about ten percent of the glass even when being careful.

Dragonlady 3rd May 2020 03:53 PM

Thanks!
That makes sense.
When you talked about damaging "old caulk", it confused me. (Most things do)
When you say "Don't pressure wash your windows, you fool.", I get that!

Glazer 3rd May 2020 06:55 PM

I just had a visitor. A small desert rat. I was tossing him shredded wheat. I tried to get a picture but although I can still see clearly it's to dark for a pic. And the flash scared him off.

where'see? Can you put a circle and arrow on it so I can see the rattie?

Glazer 4th May 2020 04:29 AM

And a paragraph on back...

Rebo 4th May 2020 04:34 AM

We were watching North Woods Law yesterday. It's a show about Game Wardens in Maine, and they walked up to this house with pictures with circles and arrows, no lie! My husband and I simultaneously burst into "you can get anything you want, at Alice's Restaurant."

We just about died laughing. Doesn't take much around here!

Hallelujah, I met my deadline! If you don't count the 3.5hrs after midnight I worked last night (technically this morning), I put in 70hrs last week. I only got paid for 32. I slacked hard today with nary a whiff of guilt. I had to give up being outside yesterday on what was likely the most beautiful day of the week, weather-wise, but there will be more.

I had a week of final exams and a 15 page term paper, followed by what is quite possibly the worst proposal* I've ever wrangled. The release of pressure is palpable. Even doing school work feels like a doodle now.

*The proposal itself is nearly up to my standards. It was the non-cooperative team I was managing that turned it into Hell week.

Diamonds2020 4th May 2020 04:34 PM

I have more of a social life now, than the last few years, thanks to zoom!

Solfy 5th May 2020 01:34 PM

Wheeeee! Straight A's in the semester from Hell! I never have to do another 7.5 credit semester again, and at the rate things are going I might not set foot on campus again. Summer is 100% virtual, a fall decision is in the works.
Six down, two to go.
