did I miss someone already starting a minirave thread? :pure:
I can get my hair cut tomorrow! I am SO happy!!:banana::banana: |
I made my dental appointment for next Wednesday and got a 5:30 slot. So my temp cap can finally be replaced.
|
My checks for my new checking account came in the mail today. Now I can start using the new account and close the old one in a month or two, when all activity has ceased.
|
It's a beautiful day. Went for walk. Much nice.
|
We still have lightning bugs in the evenings! Generally by this time it's so hot and dry they've all gone, but we've had a very wet spring this year.
|
:wow: I was just coming in to post that I saw the season's first fireflies tonight!! I love them, always reminds me of happy summer nights, camping with my family.
I always text my sister the night I see them; she lives north of me, and she gets them about two weeks after I do. |
today a co-worker helped me with the form to fill out for Unemployment Insurance.
don't know yet if I'm even eligible to collect or, if I am, how much money we are talking, but anything would be better than nothing. calling their helpline justs gets a busy signal! so I was really glad for the help. other people! they are both the biggest problem and our biggest asset. :) |

Stuff is starting to open up. We were able to make a run to the recycling place today. Got rid of a bunch of metal scrap, two old tower computer, some small electronics and an old window air conditioner. They've started figuring out how to do this, people stayed far away, everyone wore masks and they had the payment thing on a long pole, so the employee was never near you.

I got my hair cut!
I meant to go to the mobile farmer's market today but forgot, but luckily the main one starts on Saturday. the weather has been awesome as is frequently the case here. as long as you don't mind a little wind. :) |

Before and after preferably.

Amid all the shitstorm of protests, police brutality, and pandemic going down, there's a beacon of light that's gives me a respite from all the turmoil: The BFT Podcasts (link to an excerpt from today's show). John Canzano is a local sports columnist and radio personality who, since mid-March, has been broadcasting his show from his home. His wife, Anna (Song) Canzano, is a former TV news reporter/anchor, has been joining John on-air for 30 minutes of unscripted chatter. They have an unmistakable chemistry and often share frank and intimate glimpses into their lives. I've listened to John's show sparingly for a couple of years, but when he introduced Anna to listeners it took the show in another direction, and I make it a point to listen each day.

Our babies left the nest today.
All Spring we have watched a female hummingbird build a nest in the crook of a potted tree outside my office window. Eggs were laid and hatched. The chicks grew so quickly. Today they finally stretched their wings and flew. I hope they come back to say hello. |
While on a call yesterday I watched out the window as two industrious wrens attempted to build a nest in the box our new grill had come in. While I would have loved to have a nest of baby wrens where we could watch, a) the box was slated to go in the trash that night and b) even if I'd been generous enough to leave it there, one of the neighborhood cats surely would have gotten into it. They scolded me as I broke down the box and left the lovely bits of moss where they could re-gather it.
Oh, and I applied for a new job this evening. |

Thanks! I have all sorts of complicated feelings about it.

I'll bet. Major changes aren't easy.

My sweetie got all the staples out of his back and belly yesterday! Over 100 of the suckers are gone! Let the healing continue!!!

How's he feeling, FCM?
Talked to a person in the targeted department today and got a very valuable ear-full. Now I know where (some of) the pitfalls lie (there are always pitfalls) and more about the job. It still sounds like a great fit/opportunity. Talked to my boss about it, too. He is enthusiastic for me, though he did start off by asking if I really want the new job or if I'm running away from my current one. Por que no los dos? I was candid with him. I appreciate that I've always been able to have open dialogue with him, and it's only gotten more so since he's retiring in three weeks and has completely lost all "good corporate soldier" give-a-fucks. Con: My commute will be longer than 2 miles. *le sigh* |

I keep getting ads on Facebook for (and I quote) "Florida Department of Health (DOH)". It always makes me wonder what huge mistake they are about to be announcing.
|
Florida Today says 1305 new cases in one day.

I'm still in a lockdown state of mind, although I am going to a drive thru once a week in addition to the once a week grocery trips. Thankfully I have a job and a company that is letting me still work from home, although since they keep expanding they are perpetually short of office space here in the county of the HQ, and so I fear that they might want to bring me back but can't because they've given my seat to someone else. Which isn't bad except for meetings, which, if they have to occur, are still slightly better in person. I'm still as efficient at home because at best, I can work unimpeded from distractions, and at worst, my morale is better because I am distracted by good things at home instead of distracted by annoying things/workers at work.

Peach Tarte at Trader Joes is back in Season!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
There's oodles of fireflies tonight, and the frogs and crickets are singing away. The dewpoint is definitely up there, but you can't have everything. It's extra fun when the humidity gets so high that the frogs are crawling on the walls of the house. (Outside, not inside). The first time I saw that I was like WTF? But now it seems normal to have them come calling occasionally during the summer.
|
I wonder why the frogs do that? and only in high humidity?
new plan: find a mini rave to post EVERY day. I can do this. today's rave: the Farmer's Market opens!! in about 2 hours!! :D |
Yeah, when the humidity gets upwards of 80-90% there's condensation on the siding, so it's probably more attractive to them. Like the frogs are thinking "I love it when everything is dripping wet!" That's my guess. There'll be a dozen or more clinging to the siding, croaking away.

They just played The Moody Blues's You and Me on the radio. Damn, that was great. I love that tune and I haven't heard it in ages.
|
Sunday's minirave - Nick Zentner's livestream, about the San Andreas fault, is super interesting this morning. :science:

Yesterday my wife and I used the Pressure Washer & scrub brush to clean off the patio and walk-way leading to it. It looks really good today.
Today I mowed & swept, had just enough gas to get done and then spent two hours swapping the blades for nice sharp ones and cleaning the mower deck thoroughly. My daughter was a huge help to me on this. I still need to get gas, but that can wait. |
Curfew has been lifted for Philadelphia
|
THAT is good news. It's been lifted here too, but not much happened here so it's a small deal.

I meant to be posting here more often - everyone should, LOOK for the joy - but I keep forgetting.
the paycheck I got yesterday is my smallest one ever, but you know what? it's still a lot more than if I was working fulltime at a grocery store or something. so that's good. and the weather here has been lovely. and I just saw a post from the Farmer's Market that the first cherries of the season will be for sale this week! CHERRIES!!! |
NASCAR has banned confederate flags from its races. And last night, Bubba Wallace raced a car with a Black Lives Matter paint job. I think the fun's just starting.

I don't know who he is, but good for him! I'm surprised and pleased at NASCAR. |
It's easier for NASCAR to ban the confederate flags right now, since they're not allowing spectators ay their races for now. They can threaten tracks with removal from the race schedule, and kick any non-compliant teams out of a race or even out of NASCAR altogether. When the fans come back, that's when shit might get worse. The loudest fans are already having fits.
As far as I can remember, Bubba's the only black driver in the maim series - and the first since Willy T. Ribbs. |
Let me preface this to say that in no way do I take racism and blatant (or not-so-blatant) abuse of power lightly. All things Confederate have been long past their smell-by date, which was right around 1865, and that includes discrimination against people of color.
Having said that, I'm taking personal joy in the outrage of bigots and racists right now. It's a small token of compensation for the four years of damage they caused in 2016. |
I got my filters!
So the dust mask I use for woodworking is an RZ. It's pretty comfortable and seems to work well. But the replaceable filters were out of stock both at the hardware store where I bought it and on their own website. But I checked again last week and they had the filters. So I bought two packs and they showed up yesterday. I've been using one filter long past it normal time because a used filter is better than no filter. But now I got lots and can discard them when they are done. |
The Farmer's Market FB page says cherries tomorrow!!!!!!!
 |
I finished my cherries a couple days ago. They were just grocery store cherries, but they were yummy. I'm always happy when the first cherries of the year show up. Dad liked 'em too. He'd mention it whenever he scrounged up cherries in his letters home in WW2. We always poked fun at him because he consistently misspelled cherries. "Cheeries"
|
we do right to cheer for cherries
:expecto: |
I went to see my doctor today, I got my car washed and finally went to visit a friend - her husband died. I stayed near my car and she stayed near her front door but I am glad that I got to see her.
I went to pick up my prescriptions and I had a panic attack I think, from being around too many people. Some had no masks and I got out of there as quickly as possible and I felt such relief when I got home. I don't think I'll go out again until my next appointment with my MD. It's a jungle out there... |
