:monster:

Sure Ringo couldn't face off against the dozen shitty bands with 4+ hits. No he had to draw a great one.

There are quite a few in this cool little poll that I'm struggling with. And then I change my criteria every time so I can vote "heart" instead of "logic," or vice versa should it suit my needs. Luckily for me, I never remember which criteria I chose going in to the polls so my inconsistency falls right within the strict personal guidelines I've set. :science:

If you look up the definition of "Gravy Train" you'll see a pic of Ringo.

Ringo wasn't going to beat anyone but Bread in this thing.

Ringo was a great and underrated drummer in the Beatles.

I think Ringo would beat:
O'Jays
Gladys Knight
Frankie Valli
Bread
Barry Manilow
Kenny Rogers
Chic
Donna Summer
BJ Thomas
Commodes
Capt & T
Hopefully the Bee Gees
The Osmonds (no brainer)
The Stylistics
Leo F'ing Sayer
maybe Paul Anka

The Osmonds (no brainer)it would be pretty close though. Ringos solo work was about on par
The Stylistics
Leo F'ing Sayer
maybe Paul Ankasee Osmond note

I marked up your post. Underlined artists are ones I think you are correct about IF people are actually voting for the solo songs and not for his being a Beatle.

I don't doubt Ringo is a lovely chap and all, but let's face it: he let people around him tell him how great of a singer he was, and that John, Paul, and George were making songs and getting paid, and what are you gonna do? None of his records made an impact and were pretty much panned by critics. Ringo's post-Beatles career has been a vanity project. I argue he'd have done much better as a sessions drummer, or opening a line of hair salons.

Probably not because of the music though.

Oxirane 4th August 2021 07:32 PM

I just saw the All Starrs a couple of years ago, and as a veteran of many, many concerts starting in 1976, it was a great show, especially for the music. Was it 5/8/77? No, but it wasn't intended to be.

Several years ago, Ringo found his niche, surround himself with great musicians, feature each one as part of the show, and play his catchy albeit not so deep songs in between, have some good opening acts at times, and give the audience good, fun music. It's not the Philadelphia Philharmonic Orchestra performing an 'Evening of Mozart', it's good, well played, fun music with some really great musicians. There's a lot to be said for that.

Pogo 4th August 2021 09:12 PM

How did a weekly #1 not make the year end? Ringo had a #1 with Photograph, his best song. From the same album Oh My My only reached #5 and is in this match-up list. Shenanigans!

Oh! Also: :monster:
