youtube is different lately
for one thing, it keeps telling me I can't watch until I disable my ad blocker and that never happened before. I don't have an ad blocker on my Chromebook so WTF. I have clicked on the options and none of them work. this was never a thing until recently.
(so far I deal with it by opening up an incognito window and then it doesn't happen) I'm watching Nick Zentner live this morning and people in the chat are reporting a TON of ads on replay when there didn't used to be any. and Nick says he gets NONE of that money so I'm more than a little :fist: about that. |
I have an adblocker and it has started showing a few seconds of..something...before the blocker wipes it away.
|
uBlockOrigin seems to be keeping the megrims away so far, I also hear that using a private window and clearing cache and cookies helps quite a bit as well.

uBlock origin works if you clear your cache and make sure it stays updated. There are also some effective filters floating around reddit, but YouTube will likely get wise to those quickly.
|
I also use uBlock Origin, and I got that notice once, so I turned it off for Youtube, endured the ads to watch that video, then turned it back on. Haven't got the notification again, and I've watched a couple of dozen videos since then. Maybe Youtube set a cookie that says I turned my ad-blocker off, and now it doesn't check anymore. Try that...
|
But now it's started nagging again, so I guess Youtube and uBlock are in a race to see who will win.
|
and suddenly I can use it with no commercials again
I had switched to using an incognito widow for awhile, and was seeing commercials and just now tried it in a regular window. I didn't do anything with my cache and/or cookies but will try that when if happens again. whatever! |
Unfortunately, Youtube is going from scummy to even more scummy. I can only imagine the trend won't be changing, especially as the new management are two cryptobros. Scams, scams, and more scams, for you and for your favorite creators. They play favorites, too. If you make 'em enough, they'll guard you with their life.
Just this past month a Youtuber was doxed by another. Unfortunately the Youtuber that did the doxing makes Youtube so much money that they only had a very light monetary suspension on their videos, instead of being banned from the platform as per their rules, which they enforce very strictly if you aren't making them cash. And despite their warring with adblock companies, there have been many ad sightings for these exact same companies on my Youtube feed. :haw: |
