I Finally Watched Stardust!
Neil Gaiman is one of my favorites and I really looked forward to seeing his magic on film.
I wasn't disappointed at all! The actor playing Tristan did a great job in transforming him from a scared and love sick clerk to the real hero. I thought the acting was very good overall. DeNiro's accent bothered me initially, but since it was explained, I was fine. Standouts to me were, the goat-man/innkeeper, Deniro as a sweet and cultured captain, and Michelle Pheiffer as she aged - especially her reaction to losing that clump of hair. Next for me, Coraline. ETA - I loved the dead brothers commenting on the live action. |
I really enjoyed it too. I read the book years before seeing the movie, so I didn't have the freshest memories of it, but it seemed like the movie got the tone of the book right and can't understand why so many critics disliked it.

I liked it but was distracted as the main character Tristan reminded me of my brother for some reason(he doesn't really look like him!).
I thought Michelle Pfeiffer was great in it, she's such a saucy lady! |
I loved it and although it missed out chunks of the book it was a fine reproduction of the story. Those pirates were lovely too. :)

I thought the final fight between Tristan+Ysomething and Evil witch lady was more than a bit hokey. I mean it was dramatic and all but I had a hard time believing the witch would play cat and mouse with them as much as she did. Especially since it gave them time to win with a Deus Ex Machina.
(It's been a long time since I've seen it.) |
I loved it. I love Neil Gaiman also.

I watched in on airplane last year. It is not a good movie to try to watch on an airplane.
|
I enjoyed it, but then I'm a big fan of Gaiman.
A friend told me he got the book and didn't enjoy it, and did I want the book? I said sure, and it turned out to be some novelization of the movie rather than the illustrated version the movie was based on. What crap. Then I squirted him from my ink sac. |
For those of you who liked Stardust, have you read Lud-in-the-Mist?
|
I never knew about the original graphic novel format, I read the 1999 version with no pictures. I'll have to check that out.
|
A graphic novel with no pictures? I read those all the time.
|
I jsut rewatched this the other night. It is really cute. I think the ending is nicer than the book.
|
I started reading Neil Gaiman because if this movie. I finally got around to reading the book about a month ago, and I actually liked the movie better. Still a good book, though. American Gods is definitely my favorite book of his.
|
I really liked Neverwhere, but Good Omens is my favorite that he wrote (co-wrote.)
