I have children's songs stuck in my head.

make it stop.

Backyardigans be damned.

Uthrecht 2nd February 2010 06:48 AM

Backyardigans? You're complaining about Backyardigans songs? Yeesh, those songs are usually pretty fun.

Just ask Pirate Tyrone with his wooden ear.

HongKongFooey 2nd February 2010 06:48 AM

Was it the one where they race around on horses and the one on the donkey wins?

THespos 2nd February 2010 06:53 AM

I couldn't get Tyrone's song from the beginning of "Movers of Arabia" out of my head this morning.

"Yes, I am the Suuuuultaaaan. Theee Arabian Suuuuuultaaaan..."

Some of those songs are serious earworms. I had the Boinga song from the end of "Mission To Mars" stuck in my head for what seemed like weeks. A few weeks ago, when I let my mind wander during a meeting (internal, thankfully), I found myself singing Austin's "Mystery Lifeguard" cover of "Guantanamera" from "Surf's Up." To myself. People were staring at me.

THespos 2nd February 2010 06:58 AM

And now I'm going to adopt a Pablo avatar for at least the rest of the day.

Uthrecht 2nd February 2010 06:58 AM

Yeah, the Mission to Mars astronaut song and boinga song stick with you. I find "Save the Day" to be rather infectious.

The Futility of Nihilism 2nd February 2010 07:10 AM

Well here's some Lazy Town to get those backyardithings out of your head.

Warning: Check out the URL. If that doesn't faze you, continue with caution ...

I miss the Backyardigans. Ever since my kid got too big for "baby shows", TV hasn't been as much fun.:(

Worman Polka!!

What do you mean? There are no children in our house at all, but Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon and, dare I say it CeeBeeBees (the BBC tots channel) are regular fixtures on my TV.

I <3 Billy & Mandy

Chautauqua 2nd February 2010 11:08 AM

Actually, the short lived Bunnytown had great music. (It was a Jim Henson type-show.) It pisses me off that Disney pulled the plug on it.

Right, there's no children in your house. Try turning on a baby show when there's a nine year old around. Try dealing with how stupid you feel when you want to watch Backyardigans while your child wants to watch Headline News.

Chautauqua 2nd February 2010 11:09 AM

I also like Dan Zane. It's like Paul Westerberg does Disney.

Don't worry, the kid'll grow out of wanting to watch that pap.

That's when you pull out the "Go to your room" or "Go play outside" gambits, innit?

I used to hang out with Dan Zanes when he was in the Del Fuegos. My kids can't quite believe that. Yes, children, I used to actually be cool. :science:

I used to work for a Mommy & Me program. I sang all the little happy children's songs, day in and day out, for several years. I learned just how often I sang them when a co-worker of my hubby's started taking classes there. She stuck her head in his office one day and mentioned how she had a certain song from that class stuck in her head. He stood up, leaned over the desk to get closer to her, and said in a carefully measured tone, "Welcome to my life!"

I think he was glad when I quit and the girl aged out of the classes.

Persnickety 2nd February 2010 05:42 PM

My problem is not so much that I get kid music stuck in my head. My problem is I forget the lyrics and substitute my own. I have forgotten if "It's not sausage-casing day" is actually part of the Backyardigans racing day song, but I know "It's not rapist-chasing day" is not.

As for Winnie the Pooh, until my mother-in-law came to visit, we didn't know the song had words. We had made up our own:

Winnie the Pooh, Winnie the Pooh, crazy, insane, and drunk with power
Winnie the Pooh, Winnie the Pooh, coming for the blood of my baby

Sleep deprivation makes you weird.

Wow.

That is cool.

GreyCloud9 2nd February 2010 07:04 PM

whenever the phone rings, and I have no clue where the cordless is, I sing ala wonderpets "the phone, the phone is ringing! The phone! I'll be right there! no one seems to think I have gone insane.

I believe you are correct.

Just remember, you never know what you're going to need on a race.

Oh, God. I do this all the time. I think it's a coping mechanism.

Everytime I have to sing the Barney song, I'm singing it correctly, but I'm thinking:
And a shotgun blast and Barney hits the floor.
NO MORE PURPLE DI-NO-SAUR!
But my wife really hates it when I just start making up random violent lyrics that fit neither rhyme nor meter.
Racing day is racing day
Racing day is racing day
It's not doily-lacing day
Today's the day we race
and throw acid into the faces of jerkholes who block the doors on the SUUUUUUBWAY!
You find me a better way of coping with the sing-song kiddie tunes and the near-constant repetition. It's like water torture.

Can of Pineapples 3rd February 2010 04:54 AM

Since yesterday, I've been plagued by this ditty that I learnt as a grade schooler:

If he sees his shadow, you bet
You've got six more weeks to get wet.
Until the weather is dry,
Watch for clouds in the sky,
If he sees his shadow, you know
You've got six more weeks to go.

I've been furiously Googling the lyrics, hoping that I could find the origin of this song, the other lyrics, if I'm right about these lyrics, or even if anyone else has ever sung it, but all for naught--and as of today, one day after Groundhog Day, it remains stuck in my head...

Can of Pineapples 1st February 2012 05:31 PM

I just caught myself singing this song, and told my kid why. He thought it sounded like "something from Ren and Stimpy," and I said, "No, it's real song. Hey! Let me google it." So I did (trying out a couple of different searches to get ANYTHING to show up) and saw this as the second of two links. I clicked on it and had two thoughts in rapid succession: (1) "Hey, it's the Giraffe boards, I sometimes have posted there! I guess somebody else has asked that question," and then (2) "Oh, I asked that question." So, Happy Groundhog's Day, I guess.

Flying Saucerian 2nd February 2012 04:05 PM

It's the song that never ends
It just goes on and on, my friend
I started singing it, not knowing what it was
And now I have to go on singing forever just because...

stormie 3rd February 2012 10:56 PM

Ring ring ring ring ring ring ring, Banana phone!
Ring ring ring ring ring ring ring, Banana phone!
I've got this feeling, so appealing,
for us to get together and sing. :innocent:
