My husband took a contract job with a large and popular employer a year and a half ago, was semi-promised a full-time position there, but in the end was let go, which was devastating.
But they called him back about six months ago for a year-long contract, and this time they did indeed take him on full-time. He's inked the employment offer and it's on file, and his first day as a full-timer is this Monday. He will be very well paid and the benefits are excellent.
He deserves a top-notch, high-paying full-time job. The culture of outsourcing jobs to contractors has left him under-employed for ten years, despite his excellence at his particular niche.
He's 64 years old. This new employer will always have my respect and regard for recognizing a high quality employee and not going the route of younger/cheaper. In fact, in that interim between letting my husband go the first time and then taking him back again, the employer did hire a younger/cheaper guy, but this guy fizzled out because he didn't know how to do the work despite his knowing all the buzzwords. My husband came back, promptly cleared away all that guy's backlog, and can do the work of three people by himself.
So thank you, big employer. I want to defend you in threads where posters bicker about your products, but I don't want to be identifiable to you. I'll always buy and promote your products to other people, though.
