So, I've been dealing with the dreaded musty smell from my front loader washing machine. Last weekend, I scrubbed the hell out of the rubber seal, inside and out, and then poured the last of my bleach into the washer and washed my washer. It helped some, but not enough. Friday, I stopped to purchase a big jug of bleach, vinegar and Tide washing machine washing soap.

Yesterday, I scrubbed the rubber gasket again, took out the soap dispenser, scrubbed the hell out of it and the area where the dispenser sits. After that, I ran the fancy Tide stuff through the washer and when it was done, left the door open.

This morning, I noticed the smell has decreased, but it's still there. I don't have an access door to my water pump and filter. I will now have to unscrew the kick plate and trying cleaning out the filter. God, I hope that's all I have to do.

I've never really had issues, and am pretty good about cleaning the gasket. I don't use liquid fabric softener because it can gunk things up quickly. I've had this washer a good many years now and it works like a charm; except for the musty smell in the last couple of weeks.

Also, I never knew until last weekend one is supposed to clean out the filter once a month. I've had this washer since 2004 or so, and I suppose I may have read that in the owner's manual, but I guess I just forgot that.
