Again, I wouldn't expect the average person to know what has resale value and what doesn't. I certainly wouldn't expect them to know what otherwise worthless items have strong sentimental value. The difference in your case is you're willing to separate the wheat from the chaff and do what's needed to get the good out of it, instead of calling some random name out of the yellow pages and complaining about it after the fact.
