One of my long-term hopes has been that the virus will mutate towards being less harmful. While COVID-19 is a novel corona virus, as a class corona viruses are not novel things. Most of them only cause cold-like symptoms. Mutation into something consistently less lethal would be ideal. I don't know enough biology to know if that's a reasonable hope.
