There has been two semifinals (Tuesday and Thursday) to cull the heard. Due too the large number of countries participating and then casting votes, all will not be on stage Saturday: 26 are left to fight it out.
Last year Ukraine won. To the surprise of no one. For some reason they can't stage this year's final, so BBC and UK stepped up and it's going to be in Liverpool. IIRC Graham Norton will host.
(For years, UK and its viewers have treated ESC as a joke. I think it started when they started losing. UK exceptionalism dictates that they are the undisputed world champions in pop music. Incidentally, about the same time the ESC started going over the top with more weird participants and songs - some which have actually won. There has also been some genuinely good pop songs and a few break out artist, among them ABBA and the Banshee from Montreal)
