The wooden fence between us and the neighbors was 25 years old, and was rotting and falling to bits for the past couple of years and was unrepairable. After a bit of hemming and hawing between our neighbor and Mr. brown, it was decided to replace it, and a contractor of the neighbor's choice was selected.
Yesterday all the old rotted, falling down fence was ripped out, cement bases poured and stout posts inserted, and then planks and a latticework topping installed. They started work at 9 and finished up about 5. We split the tab with the neighbor and are now enjoying a brand-new fence made of, I think, red cedar. It's higher than the neighbor wanted it, but that's okay with us, because we like our privacy. Also I think it might challenge the damned semi-feral neighborhood cats who are used to easily jumping over the old five foot fence.
