I mean, if we've learned anything from the time since 2016, it's that you can just wait out the media for any scandal, and the media will just drop it and move on.
While it might be nice to have a younger candidate, trying to replace an incumbent with a new candidate worked out disastrously in
1968 and
1924, to the point where you can't even find alternate history stories where Humphrey or McAdoo won the presidency because people are like "who?"
