I'm 5'8" (173 cm) which makes me the tallest person in my wee little family where the guys are around 5'5"-5'6" and the gals are 5'2"-5'4".
I heard not too long ago that the American averages were 5'9 1/2" for men and 5'4" for women and that average Canadians are 5'11" for men and 5'5 1/2" for women. I'm not sure why Canadians would be taller, on average, than Americans, since we all come from more or less the same stock. I just write it off to the same thing that makes Canadians live two years longer and have more sex than Americans.
