In case you're a keyboard snob...
...I thought I'd share: I recently took the plunge and got a Topre Realforce keyboard. Topre is Japanese manufacturer, and their keyboards are intended for heavy-duty professional/industrial use--think of it roughly as a current-day analogue of the IBM Model M keyboard.
The switches are interesting; they're a combination rubber-dome/linear-spring mechanism. So they don't have the nice crisp feel of a Model M buckling spring, but they combine a nice feel with quiet operation (I now work in an open-studio environment, so I needed a quiet keyboard). I'd rank the Topre below the Model M (OTOH, it has a Windows key, which is super helpful); on par with or a bit better than ALPS switches, above the Unicomp buckling-spring switches, and notably above Cherry Brown switches (I haven't tried the other Cherry switches). So if you're looking for a quiet keyboard that also feels good, you might want to give it a shot. Yes, they're expensive, but I do a lot of typing and for me it's worthwhile. |
