The new and improved most retarded thread...
I tells ya... For a board that's supposed to have the smartest folks, they came sure ask some real lulus:

I found the thread an interesting read. I don't have a problem with the question, either. There is so much bullshit about firearms in pop culture and even in the media (no shit, I heard an NPR announcer refer to Clyde Barrow's 1911 revolver.) that I see it good someone wanting to know what's real. Is the question ignorant? Yeah, but the SDMB for all it's snark and politics does do a decent job fighting ignorance. It's just taking them longer than they thought. Anyway, aren't most questions (rhetoric aside) ignorant by definition?

I agree with you however that there is a lot of ignorance about guns in general. But this is not even a common misconception (At least I've never heard of it). ETA: (orders Jackie some cranky) ![]() |

All those welts and little red lines are caused by near misses, that's why the hero can recover from them by the next scene.
Especially the heroes with self repairing hair. |

Well... yeah it was a dumb question. Not really extra dumb. But still dumb.

I remember how The Man was called an idiot for starting a bunch of separate Dope snark threads instead of posting in the omnibus thread. He was an idiot. Hint hint.

Probably depends on the type of ammunition. (Shrapnel)

Yeah, but see with my thread you get a two-fer. Not only was I snacking on a durp thread, but I also called out the idiot starting a separate thread.

Only with a shotgun. And then you can't say it really missed you.
If you are up close you could get hurt by the muzzle blast and/or a sabot. But not the bullet. OK, if you were to experience a near miss out of a 16" Navy cannon, you would probably get hurt by the shock wave of a 1 ton supersonic bullet whipping past. |
