So I bought a .44 magnum it was solid steel cast
And in the blessed name of Elvis well I just let it blast
'Til my TV lay in pieces there at my feet
And they busted me for disturbin' the almighty peace
Judge said "What you got in your defense son ?"
"Fifty-seven channels and nothin' on"
I can see by your eyes friend you're just about gone
Fifty-seven channels and nothin' on
Fifty-seven channels and nothin'...

^^^ I don't hate that film, but I'll never label it one of my favorites either. In my opinion watching it now may be hard anyways since one of the main actresses isn't here anymore, may Clark's mother in law, Doris Roberts, rest in peace.

God bless you and her family always!!!

Holly

P.S. Thinking of her made me realize that I forgot to mention the Everybody Loves Raymond show. I do watch that on TV Land here and there. Even though I want to smack Doris's character on that show, I will admit that to me, she has the funniest lines on the show:

Her character to Debra: "I got to go. There's a pig eating my ham!"

Frank: "Are you trying to mess with my head?"
Her character to him in return: "Well I can't mess with your hair."

Nobody likes old movies. If it was made before the first Transformers movie then it's not worth watching. Except for the Back to the Future Franchise.

I don't know about everyone else here, but I do okay in this area if I am interested enough in what the films are about. My most favorite film to watch every year on Christmas Eve night is Ernest Saves Christmas and the man who played the Ernest character has been gone for almost 17 years now.

God bless you and his family always!!!

Holly

P.S. I love the films where he went to camp and to jail too.

No he's never shown. "Vern" is supposedly the audience. It all started when "Ernest" was doing local commercials and annoying "Vern" with whatever product he was shilling.

"Ernest was created by the Nashville advertising agency Carden & Cherry and was used in various local television ad campaigns.[5] The only national products he promoted were The Coca-Cola Company's sodas,[6] Chex, and Taco John's.[7] The first Ernest commercial, filmed in 1980, advertised an appearance by the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders at Beech Bend Park, an amusement park near Bowling Green, Kentucky."

"The rubber-faced Ernest, almost always dressed in a denim vest and baseball cap, appeared at the door of an unseen and unheard but seemingly unwilling neighbor named Vern. The spots were structured in a way to allow the viewer to be "Vern", as Varney looked directly in the camera whenever Vern was addressed. Ernest's seemingly pointless conversations with Vern – which were actually a monologue due to Vern never responding – inevitably rambled around to a favorable description of the sponsor's product,"

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ernest_P._Worrell

And for fun here is one of the early Ernest commercials for Braums Ice cream.

You're welcome. When I heard Jim Varney had died I did a bunch of googling on him. He lived a nice quite life in a small town when he wasn't out filming.

The Ernest movies were a big part of my childhood too. We saw Ernest Saves Christmas in the theater.

^^^ I saw that film in the theater too and I'll never forget when I got word about that lovable man going forward. My braces were being worked on and a radio was on where I was in the doctor's office. His passing was being talked about on the station the radio was on and I sat up from the seat that I was in with a wide eyed look on my face, but because of the stuff that was in my mouth, I wasn't able to explain when I was asked, "What's wrong." All that I could do was lay back down with a sad look on my face and wait for the work that was being done on my mouth to be over and off my plate.

God bless you always!!!

Holly

P.S. His life away from the camera only makes me have more respect for him. I love when people in the celebrity field are like that. They choose to be like everyone else instead of putting front and center everything that they have. I just wish that he had not been the smoker that he was. Cancer has taken so many people and being a smoker only welcomes the sickness into a person's life with open arms.

^^^ I only saw that Beverly Hillbillies film one time, but I loved hearing him do Slinky Dog's voice in the first two Toy Story films.

God bless you and his family always!!!

Holly

P.S. I've read elsewhere that another Toy Story film is being done, but it won't be released until 2019! How long does it actually take to make one? How long did it take for each of the first three to be done?
