New (Or Not?) Fall 2019 Shows
Has anyone seen anything that looks good this year? I haven't done much exploring yet, but I like Jimmy Smits and I saw an ad for his new show:
Bluff City Law Do any new sitcoms look interesting? Feel free to talk about returning shows, as well. I don't know if I should be ashamed or sort of proud for having watched Grey's Anatomy every. single. season. Does anyone watch Chicago Fire and or Chicago PD? Do you recommend them? I love Chicago having lived there a couple of years, but I never started watching these. I think I might like to start. ETA: I just remembered that the sitcom Perfect Harmony looks kind of cute. |

The Unicorn -- Walton Goggins. Loved him in The Shield and Justified.
"A widower is eager to move on from the most difficult year of his life, only to realize he's utterly unprepared to raise his two daughters on his own and equally unprepared for the dating world where he's suddenly a hot commodity." The previews look good, and it looks like there's no audience, so none of that crap where actors pause to allow for laughter. The previews for Evil also look good -- not overly dramatic. Too many dramas have a soap opera quality. Nobody talks like a real person would talk. There has to be so much exposition to move the plot. I'm old, and sometimes I feel like I've seen everything. Plus, there are so many choices! |

I thought about The Unicorn, but for the moment, it hits too close to home. I do like shows without laugh tracks so I suspect it will be perfect one of these days.

Thought Prodigal Son (Fox) was terrible. It's the kind of show that needs to be on basic cable - not as indulgent as premium cable, but able to get away with more than a network show. Michael Sheen? I dunno. He can act, I guess. But I'm just not feeling this show AT ALL.
Emergence (ABC) wasn't bad, but I'm an Allison Tolman fan. I hope this is a limited-run show where the writers have a specific plan of how to get from point A to point B and not... ya know, Lost, that just kind of rambled on for 4 seasons. I'm leery of a show like this getting canceled before the reveal or resolution, and there are so many similar stories out there: The Event, Persons Unknown, Flashforward, Invasion, Timeless, The Crossing... About to watch Stumptown. |

I am hoping that a new show named Triangle is added to the ABC line up in January like I read at another website at one point because one of my most favorite actors scored one of the show's leading roles, I love Matt Passmore SO much!!!

How was it? I started to watch, but just couldn't buy Cobie Smulders as an extra-special combat veteran. And 16 years ago in Afghanistan? She looks 30.
I had Schooled on the DVR. Thought it was new, turns out this is the second season. I liked it a lot. Tim Meadows as the principal, Michael from Jane the Virgin. It's at least as funny as AP Bio -- maybe funnier. |

Unicorn -- Walton Goggins as a widower of one year who is in the market for a relationship. Or sex. Not sure. I really like Rob Corddry and Michaela Watkins, who play Goggins' sister and brother-in-law, and I like Omar Benson Miller and Maya Lynne Robinson, married couple friends with four kids, but Goggins isn't doing it for me in this. Maybe I'm just to accustomed to him playing sarcastic bad guys. He's phoning it in, IMHO. I'll give it another chance though, for the other characters.
Sunnyside, loving this -- Kal Penn as a disgraced city councilman who finds himself helping a group of immigrants study to become citizens. The situation is ridiculous but it's well-written, and very funny, IMHO anyway. Perfect Harmony, Bradley Whitford as a widower (is this gonna be a trend?) who finds himself leading the choir of a small church. There's not gonna be a choir contest every week so it's hard to see what the writers will do to keep this interesting. I was a little miffed that Whitford discovers that the teenage son of one of the choir members has dyslexia. Sorry, but this would have been figured out years ago. A kid can't read, the first thing a teacher/parent considers is dyslexia. This one is trying too hard, and I don't see it lasting, despite Whitford as the star. Evil is still on the DVR, but that's it for me for new shows this week. |

ABC sucks. I found out yesterday that they are not going to air the show that one of my favorite actors was to have a leading role in named Triangle.
God bless you and Matt Passmore always!!! Holly |

I tried Stumptown, part way through the 2nd episode is was better to walk away and type on message boards. The opening 2 minutes of the first episode were excellent, the rest is blah and weak writing. I think if the car didn't survive the jump in the first episode I might feel more generous, but I also don't seem to care about or like any of the regulars. |

Mark Gatiss and Stephen Moffatt are coming out with a new show later this year, I believe. It's a redo of Dracula and I'm interested to see their take on it. From what I've heard actor Claes Bang, who will be portraying the main guy, is extremely good.
