Doris Day character as too "innocent" to succeed? What movie?
I seem to recall a scene in a movie with Doris Day. The dialog may have been with Rex Reed.
After singing only a tiny bit he cut her off and told her she had no chance in Hollywood. She protested that she had barely started but he assured her that as an expert in the field he could tell that she had a GOOD voice but not a GREAT voice. He did not rule out someone with only a GOOD voice from succeeding. But then he expanded on his point. Some (woman) singers project a certain sexiness. He then said, that SHE, on the other hand, made men think of housewives/faithful wives. (Or words to that effect!) Implication: One must have a GREAT voice if you are someone who projects like that! And, of course, she had no such level. "Well!!! I've never been so INSULTED!" I'm only interested in the title of the movie, So far i haven't been able to find it online. |
