I got to the dog park early this morning. Three cars in the parking area, no signs of dog nor human. I jogged, listening to birds singing.

I just saw this bacon, egg, and cheese sammie on Facebook. It was glorious!

We had a lovely chilly rainstorm yesterday, and got at least half an inch of precipitation. This is unusual for early May here in the south bay.
And we had a cold night, which I love. I leave my window open and heap on the blankets and sleep very well. Right now, at 6:30 a.m, it's 39 degrees outside. It's my favorite kind of weather. |

My cat is a TV celebrity now. Well, a local TV celebrity. Okay fine, a local celeb in a crappy little news market, and only because they requested pet pics from viewers, but still. Gobi is a celebricat now and I'm going to milk it for free drinks at every bar I take her to.
That's Meteorologist Katie Nickolaou of WLNS-TV in Lansing, by the way. She's a little goofy but you can't help but kinda love her, you know? I can't say the same about her weekend counterpart, Kelsey Emery, who can't get through one single sentence without tripping over half the words. She's fresh out of school and I truly want to appreciate her, but it's hard when I have to mute the sound and read the graphics instead to avoid yelling at the TV. Besides, she never asked for Gobi's picture. ![]() EDIT: I do also kinda love Kelsey Emery, but only because she tries hard and is so very earnest. I want her to succeed...in a job where I don't feel that I have to finish her sentences for her. Last edited by Detroit Hoser; 7th May 2024 at 11:41 AM. |

So today I go to the Target clinic, yes, Target the store. Kaiser has clinics there where you see a NP for minor things like earaches…ended up getting my fifth Covid shot. I had the last one in December, but I’m at the magic age where they recommend a second shot for the last round. 5 injections of the devils serum and still no horns on my head.

Hiking in Illinois? It has to be far upstate or far downstate? I don’t recall many hiking spots while passing through Illinois on my road trips.
Hoser, your cat is adorbs! Cool name too. I’m guessing she was named after “Gobi Manchurian”? Or maybe I’m just hungry! |

Yeah Gobi!
I'm home finally, for those who don't know, I live in a senior citizens apt building, it's an old high school, very cool building. Have lived here for a decade now. the first person we really met was our next door neighbor, Kay, who also has cats. anyhow, she's about 80 or so, has been getting more and more achey and less mobile over the years. I cook for her now and then. nice lady. I was sitting around this evening heard a bunch of pounding outside, sounded like it was coming from down the hall towards the elevator, finally poked my head out my door to figure out who the hell was making such a racket - it wasn't from down the hall towards the elevator, it was right next door- Kay's apt. she'd fallen and couldn't get up (yeah, just like the commercial - it happens a lot around here) so, called 911 for her (no, I couldn't help her get up just myself), waited for the paramedics, called her daughter for her (as it happens, her daughter's cell was taken out by the recent storms, so that didn't fly), helped sort her out with the paramedics, found her phone for her and her wallet so she could give them her medical cards, got her coffee and water, her tv remote, made sure her cats hadn't gotten out of the apt. she kept on apologizing that she had to 'bother' me, I kept apologizing for not realizing it was her making the racket - told her if it happens again, tap out shave and a haircut two bits or something. getting old sucks. but having a good neighbor (her) doesn't. |

87 degrees and only an hour away from Lake Michigan! Sunday!
![]() Gonna touch some grass….errr sand in a few hours. I will need to after fucking around with these Chicago and NW Indy games. -$400. Building cards used to be a very safe and low risk activity, until certain casinos started purposely lowering the payback to the lowest percentage within legal limits (80%?). Many of those casinos are up here in Chicago and NW Indy. ![]() |

Trader Joe’s just gave me a bottle of hatch Chile salsa for free! I asked the lady ringing me up has she tried the salsa. She said since I haven’t tried it yet she’s going give me some for free to see if I like it. Wow!

I googled her, and found this Farcebook vid:
https://www.facebook.com/watch/live/...95617307974524 Jesus fucking Christ. That isn't even remotely close to "Near white-out conditions". She's obviously never seen 'white-out'. If you can see where you're going to step, next, It's not a 'white-out'. I tested out my GPS, once, by walking a few hundred yards out-and-back in ACTUAL white-out conditions, and got back to my waypoint by stepping on the rock I'd waypointed. I didn't actually see that rock until my foot was about to come down on it. I got back to my door because I'd also way-pointed that. I knew I was risking my life, relying on the GPS. I did it entirely by following the damn pointer on the GPS. I couldn't see 2 feet in front of me. THAT's a freaking 'white-out'. |

Went to Milwaukee yesterday and made a vlog about it. Had lamb shoulder and falafel at a place called Tre Rivali, had some drinks and a good time bumping music in my car and soaking in the city.

Ever been to the the spy bar in Milwaukee? It's called Safe House and you need to know the password to get in. Dress is traditional spy attire. I've never been, but it's on my list of things to do if I ever get into the area.

I have not been to The Safe House in 30 years, but remember it as a good time. I doubt they've changed the password in 30 years.
I'm taking the wife to Milwaukee on Sunday to Hamburger Mary's for a drag brunch - it's our anniversary. |

I'm looking for a safe house.
BTW - if you get the password wrong, they make you do... something. They've got cameras in the entrance way, and broadcast it on screens in the bar. |

I just had a giggling fit. I needed that laugh today.
I’m always taken aback whenever I hear a grown ass person burping in a public ass place, unless it’s a bar. A few minutes ago this old man burped loud AF and didn’t say excuse me or anything. Zero fucks given. I could imagine him being a doper. LOLOL |

The wooden fence between us and the neighbors was 25 years old, and was rotting and falling to bits for the past couple of years and was unrepairable. After a bit of hemming and hawing between our neighbor and Mr. brown, it was decided to replace it, and a contractor of the neighbor's choice was selected.
Yesterday all the old rotted, falling down fence was ripped out, cement bases poured and stout posts inserted, and then planks and a latticework topping installed. They started work at 9 and finished up about 5. We split the tab with the neighbor and are now enjoying a brand-new fence made of, I think, red cedar. It's higher than the neighbor wanted it, but that's okay with us, because we like our privacy. Also I think it might challenge the damned semi-feral neighborhood cats who are used to easily jumping over the old five foot fence. |

I replaced those 2 years ago. So my backyard has a pretty nice perimeter privacy fence that should still be in good shape when we sell. In the front I removed some of the fencing completely and now have more of a picket fence just across the front. The prior fence ran close to the driveway which was annoying, especially for snow removal. Though it was convenient for Christmas lights. So we went from this: ![]() ![]() ![]() I'm slowly trying to improve the landscaping of the yard. But this is fairly new to me and I'm making plenty of mistakes. I thought 2" of white gravel would stop weeds, I was wrong. Very wrong. So now I'm slowly pulled the gravel back out, weeding by pulling roots, laying down cardboard as a barrier and putting the gravel back. I feel rather stupid and hope this works. |

Nice! And your street is very appealing, too. Best of luck with your landscaping efforts.

Jaclyn Jill was there - we know here from Camp Wanakiki (season 5). Talked to her a little bit after - she was surprised and happy to meet actual fans!
