Work email etiquette question
I received a work email from someone in another country that does not know me. He got my name from the database where our parts and drawings are stored. I assume that English is a second language to him as he's a contractor in Poland. I'm also assuming he's a guy!
Question: He called me by the wrong name, twice, in the body of the email. It was close, but not correct. (Ex: John instead of Joan) Would you correct him? I just answered his question and put my standard pasted signature. When he replied back, he must have figured it out because he used the right name. I debated making my name bold, or saying HEY! My name is REBO! But didn't. I've also had people call me by the wrong gender because my first name is androgynous. (Remember Pat on SNL? ![]() Anyway... TL;DR - called by the wrong name in an email. Would you correct them? |

In a single email situation I would have done exactly what you did - add my signature and hope he sees it.
I've never been misgendered but I do get irritated when people use the other spelling of my name (dropping an ostensibly silent letter). I've never had to correct someone in writing, but I have ribbed them about it in person. I mean, it's right there in my sig. Pay attention. |

I prefer to just wait and see how long it takes them to notice, if ever. The record so far is two years of weekly contact. Then I rib them about it.
