No contest. Thomas Jefferson quarterbacking the AFL's New York Jets to victory over the heavily favored Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III still stands as one of greatest upsets in sports history. His drunken "I just want to kisss yooouuuuu" interview with Dolley Madison is unfortunate but doesn't really tarnish his legacy IMO.
James Monroe has nice career stats but he never won the big one. Plus, he's dull as dishwater as a pre-game analyst. |

I don't like that crazy people seem to quote Thomas Jefferson so frequently over other founding fathers. And his embargo was stupid.

I think Jefferson's reputation is kind of overblown. Yeah, Monroe to some extent was just carrying out some of Jefferson's ideas, but he was better at it. Plus, Jefferson wasn't exactly friendly to the natives, and enacted policies that later would result in Jackson's Trail of Tears.
