Anyone else watching Mysteries at the Museum?
I'm getting hooked on this show. In a nutshell, they go around to various museums, tell a little bit about them, then pick up on one specific thing in the museum and tell the story behind it.
For example, one of the episodes featured an old cooking pot from the 1840's. Nothing out of the ordinary, except....this pot belonged to the Donner Party and may have been used to cook up human flesh. They then proceeded to tell the story of the Donner Party, which was fascinating in its own right. Another one goes to the Coney Island History Museum, which has the history of the sideshows and carnivals. In it is a small bracelet with letters spelling the name Carol. It was an ID bracelet used on one of the "incubator babies" that used to be in a sideshow there. The exhibit was set up by the doctor who invented the premature baby incubator which was not accepted by the medical profession until he had saved over 6000 premature babies lives. Fascinating stuff! |

As an aside, the Coney Island Museum was hit hard by Sandy and at least some of its relics are gone forever. There's currently no reopening date set.
