Star Trek Characters MEGAPOLL!

Megapoll is back!

Well, maybe. I was thinking of doing a contest to find out our most favored Star Trek characters; I know you have some, given the interest shown in threads like Fenris' TNG binge.

Let's see some vote action in these two preliminary poll threads, if you're into it.

Star Trek Characters (Pool X qualification)

Star Trek Characters (Pool Y qualification)

Wondering why you haven't seen Kirk or Spock yet? The top fifteen seeds in the tournament have a bye through this stage,

Jonathan Archer
Julian Bashir
Chakotay
Data
The Doctor
Kathryn Janeway
Kira Nerys
James T. Kirk
Geordi La Forge
Miles O'Brien
Jean-Luc Picard
William Riker
Benjamin Sisko
Spock
Worf

That's the captains from the five series plus the ten other characters with the largest script presence (episode appearances and dialogue) across the whole franchise. They await some of the victors from the current matches.

Today's,

STC: Kor VS. Number One

STC: Dukat VS. Malcolm Reed

STC: Zek VS. Saavik

STC: Martok VS. Edith Keeler

From one of the match threads,

There are some tough draws.

To be clear, it is an uneven bracket (total field of 79 characters ), and some of the matches you see currently are a step higher in the tree than others. The tournament was essentially seeded by characters' script prominence (number of screen appearances and volume of dialogue). I mentioned the top set already. So far we've seen a bunch of matches from the bottom thirty (including the fifteen from the "qualifying" lists), and some from the middle set, as this was. Structurally, a loss in the first match for the middle set is equivalent to a win followed by a loss for characters from the bottom set. If that makes sense.

Point being, there is a method to the madness, and I'm not playing favorites.

And the next level continues with,

Pere, just a quick kudos post before you tackle the final 3 rounds. It's been weird to sit out of the megapoll but I just don't know Trek well enough to participate. It's still been fun to read, though. Your exchange with PSXer in the early Weyoun VS. Charles Tucker III thread still cracks me up:

I see the seeding's fucked again, with either Spock or Picard out before the semi-finals.

Really, you woulda wanted a bracket where the 'right' four, per you, cruised to the semifinals?

I wanted Picard vs Kirk, but this is doable. Would've voted Kirk even then. Same reasons I give in the poll thread.

It doesn't work like that, looking just at bracket position.

Maybe I'll generate a voting-statistics table for more precision...
