For all the shit I gave her, she did a much^infinity better job than I ever could, and no one cared more about the durp or worked harder at it. RIP, Jenny.

I know it sounds weird, but I feel like the best way to honor her memory is to make the new board a success. She put so much into it, and really cared. I don't know, it's just shocking.

R.I.P. Tubadiva. I didn't know you, but I admired your perseverance, patience and warm humor in dealing with all of us ingrates. I hope you're now part of a majestic orchestra in the great beyond.

Jennifer Paradis
Also Known As Jennifer D Hagar

Age 65

Stone Mountain, GA
Decatur, GA

I'm pretty sure this is Tuba. 65 is too young to pass on. I hope she didn't suffer.

I just found out an urban planner friend of mine was also friends with her! One degree of separation. Damn.

Thank you, Jenny. I'm glad she was able to see the SDMB move to a better place during her lifetime. Respect.

I had talked to her just possibly hours before she died. I had no indication anything was amiss. I’ve known her for more than 20 years, met her in Atlanta and spent lots of time with her in Chicago, and spent a lot of time chatting recently. We used to be closer and send Christmas cards/gifts, but drifted apart for no real reason. Fierra and I are shocked and so very sad.

She did a lot behind the scenes to help with the Straight Dope column and website for 2 decades, and she helped very much with a lot of crap repetitive IT jobs that literally no one else was willing to do, but had to be done. She was a vital and tireless part of the team who produced the column, and never complained about the work.

I forget who said it (wasn't Jenny), but when someone asked if she actually played the tuba, said, "Not only does she play the tuba, when she plays, she wins."

It's more corny than weird but I totally agree. I can't believe one of her last acts was to give birth to the New Dope. We didn't see eye to eye on much but she was earnest in her love of the community. Crazy loss to the SDMB.

She did a yeoman's job making the transition as smooth as it could possibly be, and addressing all the grumps and grouchings afterwards. You don't see dedication like that much anywhere, let alone on dinky obscure messageboards.

What a loss, I haven't been active on the Dope for years, and even when I was, it would hardly been considered 'active'...but I always lurked and appreciated her attempts to try and herd cats, we can all be a snarky and contentious bunch, but right now, just prayers and thoughts for her family, wow, I am so sorry to hear this...

It actually kinda bums me out that I can't post to the memorial thread. To that point, I think it should be "Tuba's Migration".

Wow. This can't be true. I'm reading all the posts and I'm thinking this can't be true. But it's true. Our only interaction was a few months ago and she was as kind and thoughtful as she could be. RIP Jenny.

I remember emailing her about the main Straight Dope page even before I joined the board.
And she was a fellow band nerd.
RIP. So sad.

Dang, that was super sudden--I guess she'd had a stroke previously so maybe another one? If that was it then I'm glad for her that it was sudden and final, no hanging around with deficits and pain. Blessed be, Jenny, may the Goddess hold you close.

She and I used to email back and forth up til 2009 or so. I associated her with the bad parts of the SDMB, something that was not conscious on my part but still very unfair to her. I know Jenny had some chronic illnesses, including depression...and I'm just hoping on hope that it wasn't depression that killed her. A different cause of death doesn't make it any less final, but it would mean, hopefully, that her last days weren't filled with the agony of terminal depression.

Let your energy disperse at will, fellow band nerd. You made the world a better place for a lot of people who never met you, and they'll continue to enjoy your decades of work.

First thing I saw on facebook today was a post from a friend (Ranger Jeff), shocked.
she reached out to me via facebook after what, a decade or more since I left the dope? I accepted her outreach, glad I did. Life is too short.

tell people NOW how much they mean to you.

Goodbye Jenny. You did more for the Straight Dope community than anyone else. To say "thank you" seems so inadequate for the debt that we all owe to you, but those are the only words that I have.

Rest In Peace, my friend.

My last interactions with her weren't great and I definitely didn't see eye to eye with her on a lot of stuff, but damn. She put in so much work on that board and dealt with so many cantankerous assholes with a lot of patience. This is so sad and unfair and a loss for us all.

RIP Jenny.
