It's November - order your turkeys NOW!

Fresh turkeys, anyway. The weekly grocery store ad came in the mail today and this week's specials are accompanied by the admonition that you need to get your fresh turkey orders in, pronto. Limited sizes and limited quantities this year. Plus they already have stuffing bread and cranberry sauce on sale, and fried turkey breasts at the deli, for those who need a fix now. I wonder if there will still be those kick-ass bargains on frozen turkeys in the next couple of weeks. You know, stuff like "10¢ per pound with additional $50 purchase". My brother in law loves turkey and gets a few on sale and keeps a couple in the freezer. Then when he gets the urge for turkey in March or whenever, he whips up a big Thanksgiving-style feast.

I read somewhere* there's a turkey shortage, and stores are holding back frozen turkeys until closer to Thanksgiving. I'm already prepared. Some of the fixings may be in short supply, as well, so I stocked up on cranberry sauce (which we use a lot of year-round, so NBD), and I don't remember what else. I had to laugh at myself because I was thinking of stuffing and, "ZOMG DRIED BREAD CUBES!!" Fortunately, I came to my senses pretty fast and remembered, duh, they're super easy to make. I could make cranberry sauce, too, but I'm much too lazy.

* I think it was in the shortages thread in the Quarantine Zone thread on the Durp:

This is an interesting thread. It gives me ideas on what I should be buying. Things seem to be different in every area of the country. The universal shortage seems to be some varieties of canned cat food.

So far, Pepperidge Farm cornbread stuffing mix seems to be unavailable. I looked at all our local supermarkets and nada. I've found it online, but at $7 a package, that's too steep.

I remembered last year's canned pumpkin shortage and stocked up just in case. We're supposed to be getting a turkey from Husband's work, and I always have cranberry sauce on hand so I'm set (assuming nothing happens to the work turkey).
