Would you believe I never warped my budding young mind with that show? But my horoscope sign is Slacker, if that helps any.

Should we be concerned so far the most votes (two) have gone to a sentient chair?

At first I was pissed because my favorite character Captain Carl wasn't on the list, then I remembered he was from 81's HBO's special.BTW,the actor who played Carl was great, too bad he never caught on.If you've got a hour to spend the show is on YT

In all fairness, he was on the First Season of the show as well but I forgot to include him.

He was played by Phil Hartman, who left the show to do Saturday Night Live.

I never watched the show. Other than Pee-Wee, himself, I have no idea who any of those characters are, and I sure as shit don't identify with him. Your poll is missing the only option that could get a lot of votes. "None of the above".

ETA: Thinking about it, I did see a clip once with that sentient chair. Creepy as hell. <shudder> I ain't voting for THAT...

ETAA: I also vaguely remember seeing one with the magic screen. That counts as a 'character'? Seriously???

ETAAA: You've outdone yourself with this poll. Usually they are mildly amusing. This one requires copious amounts of ...

Now there's a character who would certainly see a different side of life. We can only hope the poor thing had no sense of smell.

Re: Magic Screen. She's sentient, she talks, she has a personality (Nerdy and a bit pedantic but funny and smart), she counts.

A bit from Pee-wee's Playhouse I think they lifted from old Betty Boop cartoons: Almost everything is alive. The window, the floor, a desk globe, a chandelier, they're all people endowed with the power of speech. It was a trippy show.

I have fond memories of watching the Playhouse with my brother on Saturday mornings. It was indeed trippy, and silly enough to capture a preschooler's attention while not being too juvenile (or at least ironically juvenile) for a middle schooler.
Swimmy discovered it on streaming several years back and had a brief obsession with it. For some reason she passionately hates Penny.

Every time I see Natasha Lyonne I think of her in the Playhouse Gang.

Someone does know the difference between Mrs. Steve and Mrs. Renee, right?

Mrs. Steve was a First Season character, a grouchy old grump who was always angry about everything.

Mrs. Renee was her replacement, a cheery yenta who loved being trendy and with-it.

Well, the 'grouchy old grump' has gotten a vote*, so there's that.

*Wasn't mine. I haven't voted... Except for Pee-Wee, himself, I still don't know who any of those characters actually are. If you do a poll on "Sesame Street" or "Mr Rogers" characters, I'll recognize them. "Pee-Wee's Playhouse" characters, not so much.

I had to look them up but remembered them as soon as I saw them. I disliked them both. Also never understood why Ms. Yvonne was the most "beautiful" woman in Puppet Land. Maybe because she was the only one.

On a commentary track for the Broadway show, actress Lynne Marie Stewart agreed that was the reason she as Miss Yvonne could get away with that.

It should be noted, however, in one episode Miss Yvonne gave Mrs. Steve an elaborate makeover that ultimately left her looking just like she always does. Mrs. Steve was thrilled, however, and Miss Yvonne explained to Pee-wee afterward feeling beautiful is more important than looking beautiful. She also gave Reba a more literal makeover in another episode that left her looking like a Black Miss Yvonne. She was always willing to share her vast knowledge as a charm school graduate to help her friends.
