I definitely have a sweet tooth but Krispy Kreme donuts are just too much, even for me. And yes, I'm aware that McDonalds apple pies have plenty of sugar. I've eaten quite a few, although it's been years since I had one. But I just can't vote for the giant sugar bombs that Krispy Kreme calls donuts.

Yeah, I've only ever had one donut from Krispy Kreme that was not way oversweet, and that was the strawberry frosted.

I'll have to try that one. I didn't know Krispy Kreme made anything that didn't have a thick protective layer of sugar!

Trivia time: It was almost 25 years ago, but when they opened the first Krispy Kreme in Albuquerque, we were on the national news when a police helicopter landed in the parking lot, a cop got out and bought donuts, and off they went.

I like to jab my finger up that little jelly hole, and then suck the goo off my finger. I love me some Krispy Kreme jelly donuts!

McD's apple pies have a lot of sugar, but they are balanced. There's just the right amount of acidity from the apples.

Krispy Kreme has never heard of balance.

I'm one of the haters. Krispy Kreme has just about the worst donuts. I would rather have little chocolate donuts.

Yeah, I never understood the love for Krispy Kreme. Of course, I'm most used to seeing them in the fundraiser boxes where they're all stale and deliquescent and horrible. And I'm in the minority that likes the baked Mickey D pies better than the old fried ones.

Exactly this.

Don't get me wrong. A Krispy Kreme glazed donut when its fresh out of the frier and hot is remarkable. It is, in my mind, one of the great treats you can have, but just one is a lot and everything that doesn't get served HOT like that is only OK at best, largely because of this lack of balance. A good donut should not be an overwhelmingly sweet experience.

PDX has become something of a donut nirvana (I guess craft beer has fallen off the map?), with a plethora of boutique donut shops popping up everywhere. Voodoo, Blue Star, Mikiko Mochi, as well as long-time stalwarts: Sesame and Annie's. And that's less than half of what's out there. In my old job I was often charged grabbing donuts to bring to work, and Annie's was my go-to shop. Krispy Kremes was too far from work to grab, but like others have said they're great when hot off the rack. I'm not as enamored with Micky D's Apple Pie but I'll choose it here.

The overwhelming majority of responses in this thread are thoughtful, well-reasoned, and mature. Who are you people? Diamonds, help me grab up all of their glazed jelly donuts; we're leaving.

Sooooo ooey and gooey, just like a….

Anyway, I do agree there are better donuts out there, than Krispy Kreme. But I still think they are tasty, and I prefer them over McDonald’s baked apple pie.

Definitely more Diamonds-y, if nothing else! But what I was really trying to get at is that she and I are in the minority who haven't yet developed the sophisticated palates to notice that just maaaybe sweet dough that has been glazed and filled with jelly is possibly a bit too sugary for some.

This guy gets it.

Appallingly enough, there is both a Donut Palace and a Donut King near me. Yow!

I'll eat a Krispy Kreme donut. It's better than anything Dunkin' has. But I prefer cake donuts.

Voting for pie.
