One of the things that amazes me when I read these old snark threads is how even the most wacko derpers had adoring fans.

Those Liberal threads are a good example. Although some Dopers were calling him out on his horseshit, there were a fair number of people sticking up for him, saying "Welcome back, Liberal!" when he un-flounced, and praising his glurgy stories.

Would that even be possible now? I think if somebody like Zenster or Liberal showed up now, they'd be hazed to hell and back. The most recent example I can recall of a Doper being treated worshipfully is Skald, and he seems to be gone for good.

Honestly, I get where BPC is coming from in his OP. I want to be able to buy a game on disk or download and have it be ready to play and complete, without requiring internet access or having to play it through something like Steam with their giant. ponderous. constant. updates. or (even worse) having to pay to access content I already own. So I choose not to buy games like that rather than steal them.
