Noob asks seemingly reasonable question about dietary potassium, but is suspiciously cagey about why he wants to know. The reveal comes in post 27

Daaaayum you ain't wrong. It's obvious he's either describing things that have never happened or is leaving out some very important details (e.g., he likes to shoot dogs with a BB gun for fun).

Dang… he goes from flight of ideas to word salad pretty quickly, too. He's either out of his mind due to being severely malnourished or out of his mind or both.
wordsalad ETA: there's some bad nursing knowledge in that thread. IV Potassium is never given "IV push" because it can cause deadly arrhythmias; it is given IV slowly over time (called IV piggyback), usually 4-6 hours depending on the dose. I have never heard of administering IV Potassium as "pushing a Kevorkian" mostly because IV K+ is never "pushed". Whatever… Last edited by Someone; 12th July 2014 at 03:26 PM. |

FTR, needtoknow was starting to ping my 'craydar' in other threads, too, but the durp modes keep killing my socks, so I can't search s/he/it's posts to find good ones. That one was 'in-your-face crazy'. Someone with a still-active account should keep an eye on this up-and-coming snark star. I predict many more hilarious 'WTF?' moments to come in it's (no doubt short) Durp career.

The way it's written does not imply that the RN is using it in assisted suicide, but simply administering it like any other medicine via IV. Also, no RN would legally participate in an assisted suicide because doing so opens him or her up to huge liability, but that's another thread... |

This is below snark level and I'm embarrassed to bring it up (I've already done so once before), but I can't help it. It's just about the most petty annoyance one can have on a large community where there are so many bigger reasons to tear your hair out. And yet...
There's this thing that makes me clench my jaw whenever I see it, even though I totally know it is super-super-petty: the way CalMeacham refers to his fucking wife and kid with the nicknames Pepper Mill and MilliCal, almost always without making any reference to who the hell they are. Presumably he does this because he's such a superstar and famous SDMB celebrity that I guess the rest of us are supposed to identify the dramatis personae of his life. Look, as I said, I know this is petty, perhaps doubly so because obviously I do know who they are. So why can't I get over this pet peeve? Why is it that time and time again it happens, and time and time again I get this little wave of irritation all fresh and new as if it's the first time I've seen it? BTW, I did a quick search of this guy's posts for "Pepper Mill" and the search results capped out at 500 references since 2007 before reaching the limit. Admittedly the guy has 30K+ posts, so 500 mentions in seven years isn't that big a percentage of the total--whatever that is, since I'm not sure how many posts he has since 2007. Nevertheless! That strikes me as OpalCat (RIP) levels of hubris. Latest sighting in a thread about the Orange is the New Black book: Quote:
At long last this latest post prompted me to see if this Pepper Mill chick is a well-known poster, presumably in one of the areas I don't often visit like MPSIMS. But no: her entire history consists of 56 posts, all in a single year... 2001. So Cal is referring to his wife by a name that a vast percentage of his audience has no clue about, because she's not had a board presence aside from her husband's incessant references in 13 years. That is presumption! So, yeah. Totally petty. Yet it sets my teeth on edge like "Regards, Shodan" does. Geeze, there's even less of a rationale for my hatred of this silly "Pepper Mill / MilliCal" gimmick than there is for "Regards," because unlike Shodan's willful typing that phrase over and over again, it's not done purposely to annoy the fuck out of people. (See also: Snowboard Bo's 'quarry' stupidity.) And yet, the "Pepper Mill / MilliCal" thing does. Annoy the fuck out of me, that is. There's no way I can or would pit the guy for it because it's so ridiculous and small and I know the MPSIMS brigade would be on me like white on magellan03 if I ever actually said anything. Sorry. I had to vent. The rage this induces in me is completely disproportionate. And yet, it's there. |

I don't think the Bo has done the quarry think in quite a while, it's everyone else doing it....which is exactly what he wanted to happen, he stated that when he started it.
As for Shodan, that just pissed me off. He's even been asked to stop (not by mods, by 'us') a handful of times so he knows how much it annoys everyone else and continues to do it. To be, that means he's doing it to be obnoxious. Look at Zeldar, I called him out (if you want to call it that) a few years ago on one of his posting habits, he took some minor offense to it, but for the most part changed what he was doing. Speaking of Zeldar, what's with the data mining? At least he backed off from asking for things like parts of your phone number or address. |

I have met CalMeacham and PepperMill AND MilliCal. I bet you all want to kiss my hand, don't you?
I know at least one person has brought it up on the board before (the whole "why you talk about these people as though we should have any idea who they are?") If I can be arsed to search later, I will. |

I don't think I'd even notice it, but at some point someone on the dope linked to a mommy board and another poster asked what all those abbreviations meant and it was explained that it was Dear Husband (Dear Son, Dear Daughter). Who says that? If you were at work, talking to a co-worker, would you really say "Dear Husband said he was going to mow the lawn today", no, because it sounds stupid, you'd say "my husband said he's going to mow the lawn today" Maybe people over there were doing it before and I didn't notice it, but over the hears I've noticed it more and more. Admittedly, not much, you might even call it rarely, but I see it and it's annoying. For full disclosure, when I was married, I'd sometimes refer to my wife (in a post) as Mrs P, but it wasn't as a cutsie nickname, it was just because it, IMO, made it very clear who I was talking about. |

Since he started doing it, he has used the term 179 times in 30 months, for an average of about 6 times per month. He's used it 36 times in 2014, and 5 times since June 13 (the most recent being two days ago), so he's basically right on his typical pace.
If you haven't noticed him doing it (and i hadn't either), you just might not be in the right threads. |

I tried to search for how many times Shodan has signed off, but the SDMB's search engine said "The following words are either very common, too long, or too short and were not included in your search: regards" and just handed me a list of the last 230 posts that Shodan made, which, based on my search should still be how many times he used the word "regards" in the last month. And, like I said, he's been asked (by us, not the mods) to knock it off because it's annoying.
Keep in mind that it's a not a signature, he's actually typing that every single time. Though you'd think by now he'd have programmed a hotkey or something for it. |
