That's "The 59th Street Bridge Song," Falcon!

Good lord I am TIRED. Went to Playdate PDX for TO's first birfday partay and we grownups played even more than the kids did! My knee is killing me but I'm feeling way good. I babysat Princess this afternoon while the kids ran errands and got ready for the party, and I started to teach her how to crochet. Her hands are a little small to manage the tensioning but I think she'll get it eventually--I wasn't much older than she is now when I first learned how. We had to go the the fabric store to pick up sharper needles (and I bought her her own crochet hooks) and she was in heaven--so much pink fabric, so little time! If she's interested I'll teach her to sew as well.

So, babysitting cut into my teddy bear time a bit so I didn't get it done just yet, I've done the muzzle, the ears, attached the head to the body and I'm in the middle of attaching one leg. It's looking cute as can be and sturdy as all get out. I think TO's going to like it. The heater did the trick on drying it out but dang, it's THICK material!

I have pics of TO digging on his chocolate birfday caek but I'm much too exhausted to post anything right now. I'm gonna watch some tube and snooze, then get up in the morning fresh as a daisy and finish my project. Zzzzzzzz....

Oh yeah...that's it! I liked to sing that one and Cecilia at the top of my lungs when I was a wee tot.

Grocery store this morning, and then I think it's a colored pencil kinda day. Hmmm, and I've got to figure out what I'm having for lunches and dinners this week. I'm not really hungry for anything in particular, so that makes planning a bit more difficult. Maybe salads for lunches, mainly because I like Trader Joe's peanut vinagrette and that would be yummy. And I haven't made enchiladas for dinner for ages. I guess I just made a decision!

I just did the same. Took about a half hour walk in the sun--it's 45 out there, and there are streams of runoff in the streets. Saw my favorite neighborhood dog and she came out of her doghouse and up to the fence to say hello. It was wonderful to breathe fresh air, and I was actually too warm once I got moving. I could have worn a lighter jacket, but didn't think about it since I'm so used to pulling this one on.

It's supposed to be like this through Thursday, then we go into the 20s for a few days. Then back above freezing, if you can believe the extended forecast, which should always be eyed with skepticism. I sure wouldn't mind an early spring this year, though!

Yuk, I hope you feel better soon, Ninety!

I've been doing a lot of reading about what it takes to get your art into galleries, and I think it will be years before I'm at that point, if ever. I'm not prolific enough. But I did find a site that has a section with local "calls for artists" to submit work. E.g. there's a new medical clinic looking for local nature art, and if the deadline weren't this week, I'd submit something.

I figure I'll keep my eyes out for that sort of opportunity, and if I have a piece that fits the need, I'll toss my hat in the ring. If I find enough opportunities to build up a resume, and if I produce enough work to have a substantial portfolio, *then* I'll look into selling through a gallery.

In the meantime, I'm just going to have fun.

My daughter has had some success with joining in local artists' shows. Some of the venues are eclectic - twice she's participated in a show at a tattoo parlor.

I think she stays in close contact with the artsy group. I don't know if that's something you can do or not.

Yeah, it's the trying to participate in a face to face community that gets challenging because of my health limitations. It's next to impossible for me to socialize on weeknights, and everything that needs doing in life outside of my day job gets crammed into weekends. So connecting with a community is tough.

Still, I'd really *like* that, and there is a thriving arts community in town if I can figure out a way to get in touch with them. I'll just keep looking for opportunities, and try to show up for the ones I can. One of the suburbs has an art center with regular shows, so maybe I can manage those occasionally. In spite of being rather shy, I'm actually good at talking to random strangers if there is something interesting to talk about. Being in the middle of an art show provides that kind of opportunity!

I ended up going to TJ Maxx, where I got 2 large (very nice) white mixing bowls (needed) for under $20 (for both); a large, deep saute pan (much needed as mine died over Xmas); a set of steak knives (ditto) and a set of bamboo cutting boards (because the glass counter protector I bought last year has ruined all our knives). I also got some Modge-Podge for a project I'm going to do soon, and a special hanger (5 in 1) at Bed Bath and Beyond.
#2 son and I played in the snow for about an hour. He is such a joy for me.
(not many almost 13 year olds join their mothers in jumping into snowbanks).

Dinner was pot roast with home made cheesy biscuits and carrots (I don't like mushy carrots, so I never put them in my crockpot roast).

I never did iron this weekend, but I don't care. It's my version of Miller Time now. It feels good.

Love the bear!

So I've been reading about what's involved from a tax perspective if I try to sell my art. Good grief. There's no way it's worth the trouble if I just want to dabble. I'd have to file with the state once a year for sales taxes, for example, even if I didn't collect any, which I think would be true most years.

Kinda takes the fun out of it. Of course, if someone else sells it on commission, I won't have to deal with that. But the idea was to answer "call for artist" postings, which means there won't be commission--it will be a direct sale.

I think I'll be sticking to this strictly as a hobby. I already wasted an evening learning about small businesses and taxes when I could have been making art! For as much as cubicle life drives me batty at times, I really appreciate that my employer deals with all the paperwork crap.

Dinner was the quick 'n dirty meatball sandwiches. Damn they were good. Later I'm going to have a beer. Why? Tomorrow the latest "biggest loser" contest starts are work and it is going to be meat and vegetables for eight weeks.

It's a beraffe!

I am out of the tub and in my jammies. Gonna try to catch a very early train tomorrow, since TH will be here to ensure that #2 son gets off to school ok. Really #2 son does fine, but he is only 12.

I moved quite a bit of heavy wet snow this afternoon--I shoveled off the front porch entirely and edged the driveway. It felt so good to be out, in just a turtleneck and sweatshirt and gloves, working away. But I am tired now--which is good. I hope to sleep early tonight.

Yawn. At least I only have about 1.5 hours left of my shift, hooray! I went to bed plenty early but was awakened at 0100 with some vicious heartburn that kept me up for a while so I was feeling simply FABULOUS this morning when the alarm when off. My gut is still a little rocky, NO idea WTF did it to me. Bleah. Other than that, and remembering that an 0600 shift means pissy east coasters first thing in the morning, I'm doing just fine. Oh yeah, and it's damned cold where I'm sitting today, it's right next to a window. Brr. I might have to make a lap blankie to keep myself from freezing. I'm typing with my fingerless mitts on--it's seriously chilly!

Home. Am off to grocery store now, then bath and the TDS and bed. My molar is killing me (ok, it's a bit sore, but it's getting worse every day). Last fall when I went to the dentist he said he thought it might be a cracked tooth underneath the filling (this is what happened years ago on the other side of my mouth).

I have very good teeth overall. I am not happy. Then again, I am off to the dentist tomorrow and then I get to go into my RN job. Any diversion is a good one, IMO. I do hope it's not a complicated thing tomorrow. If so, it'll have to be rescheduled on an off day.

Cute bear, Smartie. TO is just too cute for words.

God, what a looooong day. In to work early, worked late, got home late, stuffed food in my mouth.

Did my taxes several times. Why? Because I just couldn't believe I owe. There is no way around it though, I owe. Not just a few hundred either...damn it. This the first time in probably 20 years that I've had to pay anything. It really sucked losing my daughter as a dependent and being able to claim the tuition. Since she's been on her own and she and her sweetie cover her living expenses and tuition, I can't rightfully claim that. It's only right they did, but day-um that hurt.

So, the taxes are done, but the bastages aren't getting any money from me until 18 April.

Both the hubby and I are going to change our withholding as well as up our retirement contribution. I guess I'll look into estimated tax payments as well...sigh. Shit, it's not like we're rolling in dough. We live paycheck to paycheck just like a good majority of middle class people. We'll need to be more diligent about socking away some money in savings too. As it is, I don't know how I'm going to come up with that money by April. Oh well, somehow I'll figure it out.

After doing my taxes, I helped my son with his FASFA. So that's done, signed and submitted too.

Now I can finally relax.

Thanks, but I'll just go with a good peeming instead.

While you lot were taking care of business, I sat around and doodled a bit of thermodynamics and kinematics. Following up on another idea. More later if it pencils out. Meanwhile y'all need to come up with a name for my upcoming multinational empire. And it better not be Ophthalmological Violations

Between that, a little cleaning, and sitting around guzzling beer and shooting the shit with the old man, altogether a very pleasant way to spend the afternoon. Don't hit me too hard.

I babysat TO last night so the kids could go out for a V-Day dinner and I got my reward for all the hard work on the bear--his giant grin when I gave it to him. I got some unbelievably cute pics of him with it that I'll post up later today when I have the time so everybody can squeee themselves hoarse. BFF came over and we had a great time playing with the babby and trying to stop Bear from LEEEEECKING him constantly. While I'm glad Bear seems to be getting over his dodginess about children I'm not sure the incessant tongue action is an actual improvement. Widget still wants to get jealous and nip ankles and therefore has to be watched like a hawk around the baby.

Oooh, today's my first Friday--I have tomorrow off. So far I'm liking this schedule! I'm sure in summer when I want to go camping the novelty will wear off but right now it's pretty neat only having to work a max of 3 days in a row. It's also pretty fucking nice that I leave two hours earlier but get home THREE hours earlier--shorter lunch, less traffic. Reclaiming an hour out of every work day is HUGE.

Now if it weren't pouring rain I'd be all set...

Names that end in "Organization" sound cooler than things that end in "Inc" or "LLC" or the like. "Jaglavak" is too long, but "Jag" has an aggressive sound to it that fits an upcoming multinational empire. But we want to know it is officially the organization, but we don't want it to get too long, so I vote for:

Jag Off Organization

You're welcome.

That's genuis, Wolf! SA, I almost never work more than 3 days in a row and I heartily recommend it.

I got up late--woke up to the alarm, but turned it off. The cat came and sat on my legs and since I was cold, I thought to myself, thought I, why I'll let Tasha warm me up and then get out of be----zzzzzzzz A phone call woke me up-the dentist wanting to know if I could come in about 30 minutes early. Yay!

So, now I have to drive #2 son to school. At least we both picked the same day to oversleep. Another gorgeous day out there; it's like the Blizzard and the subzero never happened. Makes me wonder if Mother Nature ain't a bit bipolar and confabulatory.

ETA: lalalallalala! I can't hear you about the taxes! If I ignore them, they'll go away.

Argh, it's way too early for an adrenaline crash! As I was driving down the street I realized my phone wasn't on my belt where it belonged. I stopped the car and hunted around but no joy, got out to check the floor, nothing. Ok, I figure I dropped it getting into the car--happens sometimes. Drove back to the house, looked all around where the car parks, nothing. Got a flashlight, checked all through the house, looked over every square inch of the driveway and rechecked the car, losing my shit completely, hollering FUCKFUCKFUCK at the sky as the dogs were freaking out. Finally, I figured I'd drive back down the street VERY SLOWLY with my brights on and sure as shit, there it was laying in the very middle of the very rainy street where it had apparently been knocked out of the car when I was looking for it. The fact that I didn't run it over, nobody ELSE ran it over and the case kept the rain off is a miracle of epic proportions. Got to work about fifteen minutes late but at least I still have my phone. And a leetle bit of a stress headache. Yikes, did not need a close call this (or any other) morning!

Jeebus, SA--that'd put me over the edge for sure!

I am back from the dentist and am not happy. I need to go see the endodontist. I am being a bad pt and thinking in my head that this is just like my other tooth years ago and why can't he just put a crown on it already and be done? Yes, I know more than people who have had X number of years of dentistry....

Thing is, I can't find an endodontist that is in network, which means I'm $500 in the hole for this. I could put it off and ignore it etc and end up with several thousand dollars worth of dental work later.

It just sucks. No more clothes shopping or any shopping (except for #2 son of course). No more anything, really, until I get a handle on finances a bit better.

I fucking hate finances. Hate, hate, hate. I married a banker so I would never have to do finances or taxes. Ha. Joke's on me.

Am home. Tooth still hurting. Sinuses still draining (tis the weather). No fever, no swelling etc. It's annoying.

Work was good, overall. I am looking forward to Thursday, my day off (which will now be spent at the endodontist).

I would really like 2-3 days off all by myself.

dunno. Not sure how much #2 son wants to go up there for a weekend. I will give it a few more weekends (having #2 son here is no problem--what I want is 2-3 days off of work with #2 son in school). Then again, my head's a weird place (nothing to do with the separation per se) right now, so I'd probably not use the time in a way best for my healing (I am my own worst enemy sometimes).

Time for a chocolate chip cookie, I think.

Here's a good logo: Wolf Hunter

Dayum--that's a Kodak moment for sure.

I cannot win at spider solitaire tonight. Instead of shrugging it off, the losses have become both a metaphor for my life and a portent of the future. I think I need a hot bath and a good book. TTFN.

It was even worse than it looks--he was rampaging around being SooperBabby then suddenly got comfy sitting next to me and fell almost instantaneously asleep with his head tucked between my shoulder and the back of the couch, holding the bear. I sat there kvelling for fifteen minutes or so before I carefully moved away and covered him up. Man, how much do I love being a granny?!

Do you tend to cough only at night, 90? Have you had a high or sustained fever with this cold? If so, get thee to a doctor--it MAY be pneumonia. (of course it may not. IANAD).

I had a cold that lingered and the cough kept me up--turns out it was pneumonia. Ditto TH, many years earlier. Just a suggestion. Didn't mean to alarm you.

I am up and almost out the door. Damn but sleep is the balm of Gilead. I find I crave it and cannot wait for Saturday when I can sleep and sleep, at least until 0900. Busy day today, then home and a mostly day off tomorrow. Yay.

Having had pneumonia twice, it feels different than a normal upper respiratory and is almost pleasant. When it is my time, that's how I want to go.

No, ma'am.

It just hurts to cough. And I do seem to cough more at night.
