I've hobbies and interests that are traditionally masculine interests; I've become intensely interested in car repair and tracking over the last few years and the "car guys" here have been amazingly helpful, encouraging, and kind.* The track events I go to are absolutely dominated by men and I'm largely ignored by and invisible to the Clan of the Track Fratboys -- I'm a novice, not accompanied by a husband, and a middle-aged lesbian. He's flat-out lying. The bit about "In at least one case they dragged it over here and were smacked down for it." was a case where two or three people from here went after Broomstick in an IMHO or CS thread (a sentence or so each) and the mod didn't even warn them (IIRC), just noted them. Broomstick was actually pretty cool about that specific situation, but apparently it's gotten sand up DrDeth's vagina or urethra* because Deth will mention it EVERY chance he gets.

Which unfortunately happened a few weeks before our friend octopus joined the board, because I suspect he'd have been all over that discussion. He seems very concerned about cyberbullying.
