Why was the gecko doing push-ups?

Earlier today, I saw a gecko on a wall. He was going up and down. . up and down. . . .like he was doing push-ups.

It was hilarious.

But why was he doing that?

To regulate his temperature; it warms them, just like exercise warms us. Still, there are plenty of other reasons as well.

Thanks chacoguy and tim!

I thought I was just noticing something about a particular gecko. I didn't realize they all did that. It really did look like a dance or an exercise routine or something. I had no idea that scientists study their dance and everything. How funny!

My guess is that it's to attract a female. My male bearded dragon would do head bobs to attract the female one.

It is. He's preparing to catch that other executive the next time he decides to try "trust falls."
