What's the best job board for techies these days?
For years, Monster.com was head and shoulders above the rest, but they seem to have slipped some due the fact that they're gigantic an the whole 'needle in a haystack' thing kicks in. Craigslist.org had tons of really good tech jobs from about 2005-2009, but that seems to have dried up. Dice.com had their moment in the sun (or did they?). I've been out of the job market for a while but I've acquired some new skills I'd like to see what's out there.

First, let me say that I completely misread the thread title... and nearly choked.
I agree with all you've said about the job boards you've mentioned. I have to admit that I haven't had much luck with finding a job board I like lately. CareerBuilder was another one I've used, but again, you get the whole "needle in a haystack" thing after a while. I will definitely be paying attention to this thread. Thanks for thinking of it, Lucifer. |

There are a couple of job boards I used that I liked. They both are a sort of "catch-all" job board, in that they reference many other job boards in the search and fetch jobs from the other boards. They are simplyhired.com and indeed.com. I used to do job searches for my husband, and he's in the tech field. Found him a good job, too.

I love indeed.com, but I would like to note they're not really a "job board", in that jobs are not directly posted there. They're more of an aggregator, where they crawl the actual Job Boards like Monster, Careerbuilder, and several others (including local job boards and Classified Ads) and aggregate them for you.
You can also configure it to send you email updates when it gets hits for your particular parameters (keywords and area). However, since it is an aggregator, sometimes it is INCREDIBLY behind in getting the posts. Some of the ones I got were showing up on Indeed within 1/2 hour of it being posted on Monster or Careerbuilder or whatever, but unfortunately others didn't show up on Indeed for days. I'd click on a likely-looking link that just appeared on Indeed and be informed that the company had already closed applications, and when I'd check the date I'd find out that the listing on the original site was sometimes over a week old. |

Addendum: Depending on how you define the "techie" field, my experience has been that they pretty much all are equivalent anymore. Dice used to be at least decent, but Careerbuilder, Monster, and local listings all seem to be about comparable for usefulness.
I applied for Tech Writer (and later, QA positions) for around 3 years (2006 - 2009) and frankly I didn't like any of them any better than any other ones. They all gave me about the same kind of results, and their search engines all pretty much sucked. |
