Let's tallk Antivirus

Ok, to start off... I know jack about what is best in terms of Antivirus.

I've heard that running more than one Antivirus program can be really bad for some reason. I have no idea how true that is. I run.. oh what the hell is the name of it.. the one with the umbrella as the logo. (I'm on the netbook at the moment.. it has nothing installed as the trial of Norton ran out just now.. reason for the start of this subject).

Then on the pc there's also some scanning updating thing, through IOBIT, I believe. Will that screw with the other antivirus? I like it for the disk defrag but I have no idea if I'm causing more trouble than I'm preventing.

So, today I'm at Best Buy to get a 2 gig chip to speed up this little netbook and I overhear the sales guy talking to someone about antivirus and how sometimes the free ones are really bad because they can attract viruses that are keyed in to their weaknesses

In short, I have no idea what to use. I don't mind paying for something that's reasonably priced, I have a netbook and a PC (runs Vista, the netbook runs 7).

What should I do?
